0132 Sacred Heart Parish Sunday, February 24, 2019
2020 Mass Book Opening March 2nd & 3rd
Parish Staff will be on hand in the hall following all Masses next week-end, March 2nd & 3rd to assist parishioners with scheduling 2020 Mass requests for their loved ones. This coincides with our Sunday Donut Social so you can enjoy coffee and a donut while you wait. During this opening weekend, there will be a limit of 4 Mass requests per family - 2 weekend Masses and 2 weekday Masses. This gives all families an opportunity to get the dates they would like. Starting March 4th, the Mass book will be open to all on a first come, first serve basis as usual in the Parish Office. All Easter and Christmas Masses will be offered for “The People of Sacred Heart”. If you have questions, please contact Beth in the Parish Office at 610-932-5040.
On Ash Wednesday, March 6th, the general observance of Lent begins and continues for 40 days, in order to renew our Baptismal promises and receive the healing and forgiveness of Christ, through repentance and reconciliation. During these 40 days, we are called to devote ourselves to fasting, prayer and almsgiving, so as to listen more intently to the Word of God within us and among us.
Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are obligatory days of fasting and abstinence for Catholics. Fridays during Lent are also obligatory days of abstinence. The norms on fasting are obligatory from age 18-59. When fasting, a person is permitted to eat 1 full meal and 2 smaller meals. Abstinence from meat is binding from age 14 onward. Our Knights of Columbus will be offering Crab Cake sales throughout Lent to help with meal planning for your Lenten Fridays.
Little Black Books - will be available again this year starting next weekend, March 2nd/3rd. These small books provide a short Scripture passage and reflection for each day during Lent. Take 10 minutes of your day for quiet time with God during your busy active life. Parish Lenten Retreat - will be held on April 6th with featured speaker Sr. Sheila Galligan. Mass at 8:00 am followed by refreshments at 8:30. More details will follow. Stations of the Cross - will be offered every Friday evening during Lent at 7:00 pm in our church. Living Stations will be held on Good Friday, April 19th at 6:00 pm. Family Fellowship Meal followed by Adult Scripture Study - March 18th, April 1st, April 15th. Details will follow. Sacrament of Reconciliation - will be offered every Saturday evening at 4:00 pm. Additional times will be offered as follows: Friday, April 12th 7:30 pm following Stations of the Cross, Saturday, April 13th 3:30 pm, Tuesday, April 16th 12:00 noon and 7:30 pm following Mass. There will be no Confessions on Holy Saturday, April 20th. Penance services and Confession times at other area churches will be posted as they become available. Poor Box - Poor Box donations can be accepted through our electronic Parish Giving site or through our Poor Box located above the Holy Water font at the back of church by the entrance doors. Funds support local charities. Constellation Network - “30 Days of Poverty Awareness” - We will again partner with this faith-based organization that works for the common good of all in Southern Chester County. Last Spring with our help, they collected over 9,000 pounds of food. We will once again be receiving paper grocery bags with a list of “most needed” items stapled to the front for parishioners to take home, fill, and bring back to church. Bags will be available each weekend throughout Lent for you to fill and return as you are able. All collections will go to help Oxford Neighborhood Services along with other area food banks.
Ash Wednesday March 6, 2019
Mass at 8:00 am & 7:00 pm Ash Service at 12:00 noon
Please place any old palms you may have at home in the collection basket on the narthex desk for burning and use at Ash Wednesday
Mass/Services.

Safe Haven Sunday The family home is to be a safe haven. But the inappropri-ate use of technology in the home deprives it of this role, and is the greatest threat to the sanctity of marriages and families today. Pornography and other online threats are often one click away, and parents can feel overwhelmed with not knowing how to best protect their children in our fast-paced digital world. Next weekend, March 2/3, the Archdiocese of Philadelphia is taking a bold step to help families by celebrating Safe Haven Sunday. Please join us with your prayers and presence as we prepare for this unique event. To learn more, please contact the Archdiocese of Philadelphia Office for Life and Family or visit:

IRRP Program Update
Last November, Archbishop Chaput announced the launch of an Independent Reconciliation and Reparations Program (IRRP) in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia in order to pro-vide financial support for victims of clergy sexual abuse, especially those whose cases are time barred from civil litigation. Recently the Independent Oversight Committee issued its first public report regarding the progress of the IRRP to date. For further information about ongoing ef-forts on the part of the Archdiocese to provide assistance to survivors and protect the children and young people entrusted to its care, please visit:

Our Lady of Fatima
The Five First Saturdays Devotion
Our Lady of Fatima Rosary is recited every 1st Saturday of the month at 4:15 pm right here at Sacred Heart! Next Saturday - March 2nd, 2019
During her July apparition at Fatima, Our Lady said to Lucia, “I shall come to ask... that on the First Saturday of every month, Communions of reparation be made in atonement for the sins of the world. Tell them that I promise to assist at the hour of death with the graces necessary for salvation all those who, in order to make reparation to me , on the First Saturday of five successive months, go to Confession, receive Holy Communion, say five decades of the Rosary, and keep me company for a
quarter of an hour, meditating on the fifteen mysteries of the Rosary.” To those who faithfully follow Our Lady’s requests for the Five First Saturdays, she has made a wonderful promise in which she, as Mediatrix of All Graces, will certainly fulfill:
“I promise to assist at the hour of death with the graces necessary for salvation.”
THE BUILDING MAINTENANCE FUND
Through your generosity, we’ve been able to make some much needed updates to our Sanctuary Lighting. We’ve spent a year assessing, obtaining quotes, and having professionals review our current system. This week, at a cost of $10,000 from our Building Maintenance Fund, we were able to replace our Sanctuary Lighting enhancing both its efficiency and safety. This will enable us all to more fully appreciate and participate in the Sacrifice of the Mass.
In addition to this repair project, we have also made use of our Building Maintenance Fund to cover snow removal costs. To date, we have spent approximately $8,500 to keep our parking lot and sidewalks cleared this season.
Thank you again for your consistent support of our Building
Maintenance collections. The funds from this important
monthly collection are used not only for monthly utility bills
but for the much needed improvement and seasonal upkeep of
our beautiful campus.
THANK YOU
