SCRIPTURE READING REFLECTION In today’s brief Gospel, Jesus says simply: “My sheep hear my voice.” Have you ever seriously asked yourself: Do I hear His voice? We hear in today’s first reading how zealous Saints Paul and Barnabas were (we call them Apostles, even though neither was one of the twelve nor a follower of Jesus during His public ministry.) in trying to spread the Good News, despite the fact that they often met opposition. In today’s second reading about St. John’s vision of heaven for those who have borne/survived great distress; do we recognize that there was nothing easy or automatic about what they had to do to gain that reward in heaven? Yet it would seem to external observation that a considerable number of us cradle Catholics are living our lives on automatic, while the world around us drifts farther and farther away from the kingdom of God. E.g. We passively make no outcry against a government made up of so-called representatives we have voted for, which promotes wholesale abortion, about the teachers of our public school children, salaried by our tax dollars who promote the fallacy that the children may not be the same sex as the bodies they were born with. Do we passively allow the purveyors of political correctness to accuse us of hate crimes when confronted with values incompatible with Christianity? What might you suppose the voice of Jesus is trying to say to us today? And are we listening?
