Congratulations to Bluefield Sacred Heart Parish!

Mass Intentions for 2020 The tradition of offering Masses for others, particularly the dead, originates in the very early Church.

Inscriptions discovered on tombs in Roman catacombs of the second century evidence this practice.

The epitaph on the tomb of Abercius (d. 180), Bishop of Hierapolis in Phrygia, begs for prayers for the repose of

his soul. In the Words of Our Saints:

St. Augustine (d. 430) recorded the dying wishes of his mother, St. Monica in his Confessions: “One thing only I

ask you, that you remember me at the altar of the Lord wherever you may be.”

Pope St. Gregory (d. 604) said, “Let us not hesitate to help those who have died and to offer our prayers for

them.”

Some things to keep in mind when scheduling a Mass for a loved one at Sacred Heart: ~ Mass Intention requests will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis in the order in

which the Mass Intention Request is received in the Parish Office.

~ $20 for weekend Masses and $10 for week day Masses is the stipend for each Mass requested

and should accompany the Mass request. However, no one will be denied a Mass Intention

because of inability to pay.

~ Beginning in January of 2020, we will no longer have a First Friday Memorial Mass list.

However, First Friday’s are available to schedule a Mass Intention for a loved one.

~ Individual Mass Intentions will not be scheduled on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, Easter Vigil and Easter Masses, Mother’s Day and Father’s Day Masses as they will be an intention of all the Living and Deceased Members of the Parish.

~Mass Intention Requests can now be made for the year 2020 by calling the church office or by filling out a Mass

Intention Envelope and dropping it in the mail or the collection basket. The envelopes can be found in the back of the

church.

It is with much gratitude that we can announce we

have reached our goal for the 2019 Catholic Sharing

Appeal! Our goal for this year was $24,395. We

have reached 110% of our goal in the amount of

$26,829. This total is from 47 parishioners /

families that have sent in their gifts. Every dollar

over 50% of the goal amount comes back to our

parish for much needed projects.
