SECOND SUNDAY OF ADVENT In today’s Gospel we hear the message of John the Baptist calling us to a change of heart and reminding us that the true light and glory of the earth is Jesus the Christ. While we are busy with trees and gifts and decorations, we might be especially mindful and at-tentive to Christ who is present to us in the one with no home to decorate, no place for a tree, no hope of gifts. Can we give them the gift of eye contact, or asking their name or of a few moments of conversa-tion? This might be the most important gift we can give this year for we never know the distressing dis-guise Jesus might use to come to us!

DECEMBER SANCTUARY CANDLE The sanctuary candle is lit in memory of: † Regina Tristan by family

The Advent lectionary this year, Year B, presents Saint Mark’s account with weekdays from Cycle I. The liturgical color of the Advent season is violet. This hue is reminiscent of the night’s winter sky just before dawn. The color rose is used on the Third Sunday of Advent (Gaudete Sunday) in response to the liturgical text, which proclaims our joy in the nearness of our Savior! The Advent Wreath is a traditional symbol of the season but should not compete with the primary symbols of Ambo, Altar or Chair. Consider the possibility of suspending the Advent Wreath in the narthex. Make certain the wreath is situated in a place where it will not obscure the visibility of the primary symbols in the sanctuary. Make certain there is only one wreath sized and positioned appropriately.
