Operation Rice Bowl Reflection:

The New Covenant

In today’s first reading, the prophet Jeremiah describes a new covenant – one which is written on our hearts. As Christians, we believe that this new covenant is fulfilled in Jesus. This week through Operation Rice Bowl, we learn about malnourished children and expectant mothers in India whose health has been compro-mised by their poverty. We pray that we may open our hearts to the needs of the poor and vulnerable. We fast,

not merely from our excess, but from our very substance, so that new life may come to all who suffer from poverty, illness and injustice. We give so that CRS-trained health care workers can help improve the lives of women and children throughout the world.

New Sacred Heart Babysitting Guide

The new Sacred Heart Babysitting Guides are available in the parish office. If you would like to have a booklet which in-cludes information about the youth of the

parish who would like to care for children, please con-tact Ann in the office and she can get one for you. If you have any questions regarding the guide, please con-tact Sharon Hoebelheinrich at 792-9704.

Stained Glass Windows Mark you calendars for Saturday evening, May 5. The stained glass windows will be installed in the gathering space that week, and a dedication ceremony of some sort will occur after the 5:30 Mass that evening, to be followed with food and drink. We thank everyone who contributed to the stained glass window project, and the fruit of our efforts will culminate with a lovely celebration on May 5.

Prayer Chain To have someone added to the Sacred Heart Prayer Chain, contact Marilyn Lamb at 792-7080 or Mary Pritchard at 792-3518. If neither

one can be reached, you may call Margaret Dimon at 792-9819.

40 Days of Life Campaign The 40 Days for Life campaign is firmly rooted on a foundation of prayer and fasting. To help maintain focus on the Lord and stay in tune with His guidance, we have prepared a series of daily devotionals — one for each of the 40 days of the spring 2012 campaign. We fervently believe that prayer and fasting will end abortion, and your prayers are very much needed and appreciated. You can help by reading the daily devotionals and meditate upon these brief reflections. See the website www.40daysoflife.com for further information.

The Library’s Latest Welcome to Sacred Heart Library’s col-umn of reviews of current books, DVDs, and CDs that our available in our library. Please come and check out these and other items in the library. The parish library has some books and many DVDs in Spanish for both children and adults. The librarian is available after both weekend Masses to gladly assist you in selecting some. I love books with short inspiring personal stories in quick to read chapters. God’s on the Phone: Stories of Grace in Action is just such a book. Regis Flaherty’s experience of answering the call of a wrong number and the un-usual results led him to write this book. In thirty episodes he de-scribes how small even seemingly insignificant incidents are moments of grace. We just need to recognize them and if we cooperate with God they can have positive spiritual growth for all involved. La biblioteca parroquial tiene libros y muchos discos de vídeos digitales ("DVD's") en español para toda la familia, tanto para niños como para adultos. La bibliote-caria esta lista para ayudarle con sus selecciones después de las misas en los sábados y domin-gos.

The Library is open after weekend Masses or by appointment. Contact Kay Fisher at 792-2863.
