Pontifical Good Friday Collection
Pope Francis has asked our parish to support the Pontifical Good Friday Collection, which helps Christians in the Holy Land. Your support helps the church minister in parishes, provide Catholic schools and offer religious education. The Pontifical Good Friday Collection also helps to preserve the sacred shrines. The wars, unrest and instability have been especially hard on Christians. In these times of crisis, the Pontifical Good Friday Collection provides humanitarian aid to refugees. When you contribute to the Pontifical Good Friday Collection, you become an instrument of peace and join with Catholics around the world in solidarity with the Church in the Holy Land.

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION
Later this week, the Chrism Mass is celebrated in every cathedral in the world in preparation for the Easter Triduum. Only a bishop can consecrate chrism, pure olive oil infused with rich fragrance, so this liturgy is a sign of the unity of the local Church and the bishop’s ministry to all who will be baptized and confirmed in our parishes in the coming year. Chrism is also used in the ordination of priests and bishops and the consecration of new altars. Two other sacramental oils, the unscented olive oil for catechumens and for the sick, will be blessed in the same liturgy and transported carefully to every parish by the beginning of the Triduum. Remember when Noah’s dove returned with the sign of the world’s rebirth? The dove carried an olive branch, a pledge that God was breathing the world to life again. Yet olives require human nurture. Olives are inedible unless they are cured by human labor. Olive trees grow on sunny slopes, away from the shade of city walls, so they can only be properly tended, cured, and laboriously pressed in peace time. The Chrism Mass with its olive oils expresses God’s deepest desires for us, and our resolve to place our lives in service to God’s saving, healing, loving plan. —Rev. James Field, Copyright © J. S. If you have a group that would be interested in having a tour of the inside of the Basilica, Hospitality Minister, Larry Larson can take your group on a 30-40 minute walk around the inside of the Church and provide information on the history of the Basilica. The Basilica Tour is free of charge, but a donation to the Mission Basilica School is encouraged.

Cursillo is a “SHORT COURSE” on how to live the Catholic faith. Starting on a Thursday evening and ending on Sunday evening, it is a transforming experience that deepens our relationship with Christ. The talks include topics about the Christian ideal, the Catholic Faith, and the Christian approach to the world. Over four hundred Mission Basilica SJC men and women are using their Cursillo experience to answer God’s call to prayer, study, and service in our parish.
Cursillo is held at Divine Word Retreat Center. Everyone stays in the dorms and the food is great! Nosotros, la comunidad Católica de la Misión Basílica San Juan Capistrano, un lugar de peregrinación y de paz, estamos llamados a movernos “siempre adelante”. Bendecidos
por nuestra diversidad y fortalecidos por nuestra identidad sacramental como hermanos y hermanas en Cristo nos regocijamos en vivir los valores del Evangelio de amor y justicia

MENSAJE DE LA SEMANA:
Ya estamos. Hemos llegado. Son los DÍAS santos, inmensos, impresionantes: días cargados de misterio de Dios, del AMOR: un hombre entrega TODA SU VIDA en favor de los demás. Al final de los días se nos dirá que Él es el camino, la puerta de la PASCUA, de la liberación.
La SEMANA SANTA es el anuncio de la PASCUA. Ha terminado ya el recorrido cuaresmal y es la hora de la verdad, querámoslo asumir o no: estamos con Él o “pasamos” de Él. Es un examen decisivo.
El DOMINGO de RAMOS es la puerta de esta semana, cargada de fuerza y de significado. HOY aclamamos a Cristo Jesús: Él es nuestro Salvador, el Mesías. Los próximos días habrá que ACOMPAÑARLE para descubrir en profundidad su forma de vivir, de entregarse e, incluso, de morir. Es necesario. ¡ FELIZ y “CRISTIANA” SEMANA SANTA!

CURSILLO?
Cursillo es un taller de fin de semana sobre cómo vivir la fe Católica. Es una experiencia transformadora que profundiza nuestra relación con Cristo. Ayuda a la gente a descubrir y cumplir su vocación, y promueve la creación de grupos centrales de cristianos que levadura sus ambientes con el Evangelio. El Cursillo se celebra en el centro de retiros de palabras divinas, comenzando el jueves por la noche y terminando el domingo por la noche. Todo el mundo se queda en los dormitorios y la comida es genial! Las charlas incluyen temas sobre el ideal cristiano, la fe católica y el acercamiento cristiano al mundo. Más de 400 la Misión Basílica SJC hombres y mujeres están utilizando su experiencia de cursillo para responder a la llamada de Dios a la oración, el estudio y el servicio en nuestra parroquia. Favor de tener en cuenta que tendremos más familias, de lo usual, asistiendo a misa en las fechas mencionadas arriba. Man-tengamos a nuestros niños en nuestras oraciones al acercarse al día que recibirán a Jesus por primera vez.
TRADICIONES DE NUESTRA FE
La liturgia oficial de la Iglesia para el Domingo de Ramos es algo paradójica. Entramos proclamando Hosannas con cantos y vitoreas y al poco tiempo estamos gritando: “¡crucifícalo, crucifícalo!” Según el rito la lectura del Evangelio y la consagración de la Eucaristía se hacen dentro del templo, pero se comienza afuera del templo con la bendición de los ramos. En los Estados Unidos y otros países latinoamericanos se usan palmas en lugar de ramos. En Europa, normalmente, se usan ramos de olivos. Últimamente en Colombia para proteger la palma de cera del Quindío, se les ha pedido a los fieles que usen ramitas de plantas o ramos de flores. Estoy de acuerdo hay que proteger el ambiente, pero admito que prefiero las palmas, ya que es difícil poner un ramo de olivo o de flores detrás de una imagen sagrada colgada en la pared.
