BAPHL 19 October 6, 2018 SOLUTIONS PHLOGISTON page 1 of 24 Ravel (Phlogiston) puzzle by joon pahk, Ben Smith, Phil Steindel, and Andy Kravis This is a normal Spellweaving puzzle, with a few key differences: 1. There’s no grid given, due to Azote’s sabotage. You can use the grid in the mock page from Puzzlecraft, but the starter grid given is blank, without heavy bars or numbers. 2. To compensate for the blank grid, the clues are given with full enumerations (Right version) or lengths and word counts (Acute version). Ordinarily, this would be fully equivalent to having bars and numbers in the grid, except… 3. Some of the squares in the grid are skipped on the second pass; that is, when the answer thread intersects itself at one of these letters, the later (higher-numbered) answer skips over that square. These letters are shown in green in the grid at right. Reading off the green letters in order along the answer chain gives SLIP STITCH, the answer to the puzzle. The Pirates Who Don’t Do Many Things (Azote)puzzle by Kevin WaldTheaudiointercept, properlyinterpreted, readsasfollowsintheAcuteversion:

What should I draw on the gray circles seen in the six wheels in each column?

The sequence of objects in each column will be the same. In that sequence, what’s red will be above the olive that is itself four places below the leek. That symbol of Wales should have a turnip above it and a carrot just below it. And the wheel that has beet in it will have chard immediately above it.

Okay. I just hope all of those show up clearly when we Xerox the puzzle.

In the Right version the middle paragraph is instead:

The sequence of objects in each column will be the same: A turnip, a leek, a carrot, chard, a beet, and an olive, running from top to bottom.

So either way, from the top down, the gray circles in each column of wheels will contain the following veggies, inorder:Turnip,Leek,Carrot,Chard,Beet,Olive.
