Anytime an APS site is in lockdown, no one – not even par-ents – will be allowed into the building, nor will any stu-dents be released. Please know that this is done to ensure student safety.

Kinder NewsHello Kindergarten Families!Please continue to have your kindergartener practice tying their shoes and zipping their coats. Remind them to blow their nose with a Kleenex and cover their mouth when they cough. Also remind them to keep things (fingers, pencils, books, shoe strings, etc.) out of their mouths to prevent the spreading of germs.

Please keep practicing letters and letter sounds at home. There are many activities you and your child can do together to increase letter recognition and letter sound knowledge. We have sent home the sound card along with a list of the activities to practice with every student. If you need another copy, please let your stu-dent’s teacher know. If you received a list of Kindergarten High Fre-quency Words from your student’s teacher,please practice 3 or 4 words at a time until your child can read and write them from memory; then you can take on 3 or 4 new words from the list and continue until the whole list has been memorized. The list of words to learn is long, soitisimportanttohaveyourchildchoosejust3 or 4 to focus on at a time. Here are some dif-ferent ways to practice these words at home:1. Have your child write spelling words:

4th Grade NewsIfyour4thGradechildisstatingtheiropinionsabitmorenowthanbefore,theyarejustdoingtheirhomework!ThisquarterinWritingwearelearninghowtowriteOpinionandArgumentEssays.Whenmakinganargument,students are asked to think of a thesis or statement of believe. Then they need to defend that thesis with rea-sons,facts,details,andexamples.Supportyourchildinthesenewskillsbyposingaquestion.Allowthemtoformanopinionandgiveatleastthreedifferentreasonsthatsupporttheirpoint.Anexample,“Shouldchildrenberequiredtodochoreseveryday?”Askyourchildwhattheythinkandlistentotheirwonderfulopinions. In Science, we are continuing to study the phases of the moon and making observations about what we see. Dur-ing math students are practicing their multiplication facts. Ask your student what number they are working on and practice giving them multiplication problems. For example, if your student says they are working on 6 then they are learning 6x1, 6x2, 6x3, 6x3, 6x4, 6x5, 6x6, 6x7, 6x8, and 6x9. Knowing these basic multiplication facts will help your child understand the larger number relationships.
