“David: How the Godly Fall”2 Samuel 11-12

We Let Our Guard Down (Read 11:1-5) – This story begins with David choosing to stay home rather than be where he should be. While this isn’t sinful, it also isn’t helpful for David. Why is it important to be in community rather than isolation? Do you believe that you are letting your guard down when you choose to avoid church, other believers, serving, prayer, and time in the Word? Have you been avoiding any of these lately?

When David’s see’s Bathsheba, he is weak and gives into temptation. Why is it important to be on guard? What does the scriptures say about this? Read Matthew 26:41 and Ephesians 6:11. How have you been guarding your heart and mind in Christ this week? What are the temptations that are seeking to pull you away into sin?

We Hide Rather Than Confess (Read 11:6-27) – David goes to great extent to cover his sin; even to the point of killing Uriah. Why do we often choose to hide our sin rather than repent or confess to God and others? Is there a sin pattern or issue that you are afraid to share in group today? If so, why?

3 Precious Promises: Pastor Jon shared 3 precious promises of God that we can hold on to when are in sin. Read 1 John 1:9, Proverbs 28:13, James 5:16. Why are these verses important? Do you know of any other encouraging verses to share with the group?

We Become Blind to Our Sin (12:1-7) – God sends Nathan to confront David about his sin. In the story, David is full of anger towards the man that Nathan is describing. He doesn’t recognize that Nathan is talking about him. What leads us to become so blind to our sin? Do you remember the path that led David to this point? What was it?

Grace is Available for the Repentant (12:8-24) – David immediately responds, “I have sinned against the LORD”. He takes full ownership for his sin. What happens immediately after David confesses? What did Nathan say the LORD did with David’s sin? Why is this important for you to know? What can you learn from this?

Read Psalm 51. – Psalm 51 is the prayer of repentance that David made to God regarding his sin with Bathsheba. What sticks out to you in this Psalm? What can we learn about David from this prayer? What do you need to apply to your own life from this Psalm?

Accountability: Is there something that you need to repent of today? If so, what are the steps you need

to take to turn away from your sin and turn to Christ? How can you be held accountable?

What is one practical way that you will keep your guard up this week?
