through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.(The people may be seated.)

A Reading From Job (38:1-11)The Lord answered Job out of the whirlwind:"Who is this that darkens counsel by words without knowledge?Gird up your loins like a man, I will question you, and you shall declare to me."Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth?Tell me, if you have understanding.Who determined its measurements—surely you know!Or who stretched the line upon it?On what were its bases sunk, or who laid its cornerstonewhen the morning stars sang together and all the heavenly beings shouted for joy?"Or who shut in the sea with doors when it burst out from the womb?—when I made the clouds its garment, and thick darkness its swaddling band,and prescribed bounds for it, and set bars and doors,and said, 'Thus far shall you come, and no farther,and here shall your proud waves be stopped'?"Reader The Word of the Lord.People Thanks be to God.(Silence for reflection upon the reading.)

Psalm 107 (1-3, 23-32) BCP 746

(Antiphon: choir and congregation, verses of the Psalm sung by the choir)

ANTIPHON1 Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, *

and his mercy endures for ever.2 Let all those whom the LORD has redeemed proclaim *

that he redeemed them from the hand of the foe.3 He gathered them out of the lands; *

from the east and from the west,from the north and from the south.

23 Some went down to the sea in ships *and plied their trade in deep waters;

24 They beheld the works of the LORD *and his wonders in the deep.ANTIPHON

25 Then he spoke, and a stormy wind arose, *which tossed high the waves of the sea.

26 They mounted up to the heavens and fell back to the depths; *their hearts melted because of their peril.

27 They reeled and staggered like drunkards *and were at their wits' end.

28 Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble,and he delivered them from their distress.ANTIPHON

29 He stilled the storm to a whisper *and quieted the waves of the sea.

5

30 Then were they glad because of the calm, *and he brought them to the harbor they were bound for.

31 Let them give thanks to the LORD for his mercy *and the wonders he does for his children.

32 Let them exalt him in the congregation of the people *and praise him in the council of the elders.ANTIPHON

A Reading from 2 Corinthians (6:1-13)As we work together with Christ, we urge you also not to accept the grace of God in vain. For he says,“At an acceptable time I have listened to you,and on a day of salvation I have helped you.”See, now is the acceptable time; see, now is the day of salvation! We are putting no obstacle in anyone's way, so that no fault may be found with our ministry, but as servants of God we have commended ourselves in every way: through great endurance, in afflictions, hardships, calamities, beatings, imprisonments, riots, labors, sleepless nights, hunger; by purity, knowledge, patience, kindness, holiness of spirit, genuine love, truthful speech, and the power of God; with the weapons of righteousness for the right hand and for the left; in honor and dishonor, in ill repute and good repute. We are treated as impostors, and yet are true; as unknown, and yet are well known; as dying, and see-- we are alive; as punished, and yet not killed; as sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing everything.We have spoken frankly to you Corinthians; our heart is wide open to you. There is no restriction in our affections, but only in yours. In return-- I speak as to children-- open wide your

hearts also.Reader The Word of the Lord.People Thanks be to God.Hymn to Announce the Gospel Eternal Father, strong to save Hymnal 608The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ According to Mark 4:35-41People: Glory to you, Lord Christ.When evening had come, Jesus said to his disciples, “Let us go across to the other side.” And leaving the crowd behind, they took him with them in the boat, just as he was. Other boats were with him. A great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that the boat was already being swamped. But he was in the stern, asleep on the cushion; and they woke him up and said to him, “Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?” He woke up and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” Then the wind ceased, and there was a dead calm. He said to them, “Why are you afraid? Have you still no faith?” And they were filled with great awe and said to one another, “Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?”Deacon: The Gospel of the Lord.People: Praise to you, Lord Christ.

The Great Thanksgiving Enriching Our Worship, Prayer 3

Celebrant The Lord be with you.People And also with you.Celebrant Lift up your hearts.

10

People We lift them to the Lord.Celebrant Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.People It is right to give our thanks and praise.Celebrant All thanks and praise are yours at all times and in all places, our true and loving God; through Jesus Christ, your eternal Word, the Wisdom from on high by whom you created all things. You laid the foundations of the world and enclosed the waters with dry land;

You brought forth all creatures of the earth and gave breath to humankind.

Wondrous are you, Holy One of Blessing, all you create is a sign of hope for our journey; And so as the morning stars sing your praises we join the heavenly beings and all creation as we shout with joy:Sanctus S130

Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might,heaven and earth are full of your glory.

Hosanna in the highest.Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.

Hosanna in the highest.(The people stand or kneel)The Celebrant continuesGlory and honor are yours, Creator of all, your Word has never been silent; you called a people to yourself, as a light to the nations, you delivered them from bondage and led them to a land of promise.Of your grace, you gave Jesus to be human, to share our life, to proclaim the coming of your holy reign and give himself for us, a fragrant offering.Through Jesus Christ our Redeemer, you have freed us from sin, brought us into your life, reconciled us to you, and restored us to the glory you intend for us.

11

We thank you that on the night before he died for us Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks to you, he broke it, gave it to his friends and said:“Take, eat, this is my Body, broken for you. Do this for the remembrance of me.”After supper Jesus took the cup of wine, said the blessing, gave it to his friends and said:“Drink this, all of you: this cup is the new Covenant in my Blood, poured out for you and for all for the forgiveness of sin. Do this for the remembrance of me.”And so, remembering all that was done for us: the cross, the tomb, the resurrection and ascension, longing for Christ’s coming in glory, and presenting to you these gifts your earth has formed and human hands have made, we acclaim you, O Christ:Celebrant and PeopleDying you destroyed our death; Rising you restored our life; Lord Christ, come in glory.The Celebrant continuesSend your Holy Spirit upon us and upon these gifts of bread and wine that they may be to us the Body and Blood of your Christ. Grant that we, burning with your Spirit’s power, may be a people of hope, justice and love. Giver of Life, draw us together in the Body of Christ, and in the fullness of time gather us with all your people into the joy of our true eternal home.Through Christ and with Christ and in Christ, by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, we worship you our God and Creator in voices of unending praise.Celebrant and PeopleBlessed are you now and for ever. AMEN.The Lord’s Prayer BCP 364

If you do not wish to receive the wine, indicate by crossing your arms. After you have received the bread and the wine, it is appropriate to say “AMEN.” Gluten free communion bread is available.
