Scripture Reading Psalm 116; 1 Peter 1:3-9

Silent Prayer of Confession

Corporate Prayer of ConfessionAlmighty God, we confess that we are prone to wander from your ways like lost sheep. You are the only source of good; we have no good apart from you. We have not trusted you with all our heart; rather, we have leaned upon our own understanding. You have revealed your Word to us, yet we have set it aside and neglected its teaching. We have loved the world too much, and your Son too little. We have been overly critical, cynical, and prideful—ungrateful for you and for others. O God, please forgive our many sins, that we may experience a deeper nearness and fellowship with you. Help us to trust and obey you with faith-filled and joyful hearts. We ask this in the name of our Prophet, Priest, and King—the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

Assurance of Pardon 1 John 2:1, 2 If any man sins, he has an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous; and He is the propitiation for our sins.

Hymn Rock of Ages #499 (1-4) Rock of Ages, cleft for meLet me hide myself in theeLet the water and the blood

From thy riven side which flowedBe of sin the double cureCleanse me from its guilt and pow'r

Not the labors of my handsCan fulfil thy law's demandsCould my zeal no respite knowCould my tears for ever flowAll for sin could not atoneThou must save, and thou alone

Nothing in my hand I bringSimply to thy cross I clingNaked, come to thee for dressHelpless, look to thee for graceFoul, I to the Fountain flyWash me, Savior, or I die

While I draw this fleeting breathWhen mine eyelids close in deathWhen I soar to worlds unknownSee thee on thy judgment throneRock of Ages, cleft for meLet me hide myself in thee

Heidelberg Catechism (1563) Q. 1Leader: What is your only comfort in life and in death?People: That I am not my own, but belong—body and soul, in life and in death—to my faithful Savior Jesus Christ. He has fully paid for all my sins with his precious blood, and has set me free from the tyranny of the devil. He also watches over me in such a way, that not a hair can fall from my head without the will of my Father in heaven: in fact, all things must work together for my salvation. Because I belong to him, Christ—by his Holy Spirit—assures me of eternal life and makes me wholeheartedly wiling and ready, from now on to live for him.

Prayer of Intercession

Tithes & Offerings 2 Corinthians 8:12For if the readiness is there, it is acceptable according to what a person has, not according to what he does not have.

Hymn O Church Arise (Getty)

O church, arise, and put your armor on; hear the call of Christ our captainFor now the weak can say that they are strong in the strength that God has givenWith shield of faith and belt of truth, we’ll stand against the devil’s liesAn army bold, whose battle cry is love, reaching out to those in darkness

Our call to war, to love the captive soul, but to rage against the captorAnd with the sword that makes the wounded whole, we will fight with faith and valorWhen faced with trials on every side, we know the outcome is secureAnd Christ will have the prize for which He died: an inheritance of nations

Come, see the cross, where love and mercy meet, as the Son of God is strickenThen see His foes lie crushed beneath His feet, for the Conqueror has risenAnd as the stone is rolled away, and Christ emerges from the graveThis victory march continues till the day ev’ry eye and heart shall see Him

So Spirit, come, put strength in every stride; give grace for every hurdleThat we may run with faith to win the prize of a servant good and faithfulAs saints of old, still line the way, retelling triumphs of His graceWe hear their calls, and hunger for the day when with Christ we stand in glory

Benediction Ephesians 3:20-21Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.
