Reception – Robins Week beginning 27 th April 2020 Home/life skill challenge – Your challenge this week is to practise getting dressed by yourself. See if you can complete this task quicker each day. Our school theme this week is... The Day the Crayons Quit Reading Task: With an adult, read or listen to the story ‘The Day the Crayons Quit’ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=489micE6eHU or you could listen to Mrs Robe reading the story on our Whole School Class Dojo. I would like you to read these sentences and then I would like you to work h and answer some of the questions (adults can scribe their answers into their Learning books if needed) Green is for the grass. The grey crayon is tired Black is fed up. Questions: 1. What do you use green crayon for when you are colouring? 2. Why was the grey crayon tired? 3. What could you use the black crayon for instead of an outline? Hold a sentence – adults to read this out and your child will repeat it. Con to read the sentence but using different voices (they love this and it helps to remember the sentence) The children will then write the sentence down by sounding out the words using their Fred Fingers. ‘The crayons can speak.’ Writing Task: I have provided a few tasks, please choose one of these tasks or you could complete them all if you wanted to. The Day the Crayons QuitReading Task:With an adult, read or listen to the story ‘The Day the Crayons Quit’ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=489micE6eHU or you could listen to Mrs Roberts reading the story on our Whole School Class Dojo.I would like you to read these sentences and then I would like you to work hard and answer some of the questions (adults can scribe their answers into their Home Learning books if needed)

Green is for the grass.

Questions:1. What do you use green crayon for when you are colouring?2. Why was the grey crayon tired?3. What could you use the black crayon for instead of an outline?

Task 2: Can you write some speech bubbles for the crayons. What would they say? What can be drawn with their colour that they haven’t already mentioned in the story?

Task 3: Duncan receives lots of letters from the different crayons. Could you write a letter back to the Crayons from Duncan? (You may write a few words and you adult can scribe some for you also)Phonics task:I have provided you with two tasks and you can choose which one to complete that you feel most confident with.Task 1: Using the first sound in crayons that is ‘c’ can you think of any words that start with a ‘c’.

How many can you think of? Challenge someone in your house to the task. Who can think of more?Task 2: The sound ‘ay’ is in crayons. What words do you know that haver the sound ‘ay’ in it. Where does it sit in the word? Is it at the start of the word, the middle or the end of the word?

All to complete: Practise using your friends, Fred and blend with the words found on the phonics document.

Maths task:This week we are going to continue to focus on the topic... TimeTask 1: This week we are going to develop our skills further. This week I would like you to work on the duration of time. Set yourself a challenge, use a stopwatch on a tablet or a phone and set it to different times.- 10 seconds- 30 seconds- 1 minuteHow many hops, star jumps, skips, bunny hops etc. Can you complete?

Task 2: Discuss with your family who’s birthday it is next in your house. How long is it until their birthday? What other celebrations do you have to look forward to? How far away are they? Is it days, weeks or months away?

Task 3: Can you create a list of activities/tasks that you complete in the morning (am) and activities/ tasks that you complete in the afternoon (pm) Which list has more?

Topic task:This week we will be focussing on... Expressive Arts and Design

Can you go on a colour hunt? Have a look around your house, your garden or even on awalk. What colours can you see? How do they make you feel? Talk to your family, what is your favourite colour is and what is their favourite colour and why?

If you have any paints in your house can you explore mixing colours, start with the 3 main Primary colours – red, yellow and blue. If you mix them, what does it create? Can you predict what colour it might make before you mix them together? Can you make your own Crayons using your new paint colour?
