S2000M Introduction
ASD/AIA specification S2000M (S2000M) defines thematerial management processes and procedures to beapplied in support of military and non-military products.
It forms part of a common, interoperable, international ASDSuite of Integrated Product Support (IPS) specifications, which is prepared in concert by the Aerospace and DefenceIndustries Association of Europe (ASD) and the AerospaceIndustries Association of America (AIA).
Throughout the years, the S2000M has been revised severaltimes. The latest published version is Issue 6.1 of 01 March2017 and is composed by 844 pages.
This issue as well as the older issues of S2000M areavailable for download from:

S2000M Development History
• Issue 2.1 (1992) and Issue 3.0 (1998): Defined the material management processes and procedures to beused in support of aircraft and other aerospace airborne and ground equipment supplied to militarycustomers; still used by some international projects (e.g. Eurofighter, NH90, A400M Provisioning).
• Issue 4.0 (2005): Revised the S2000M to include the business processes and data requirements applicableto any military product (e.g. Land & Sea Defense Programs); in use for A400M Material Supply and NATOAGS.
• Issue 6.1 (2017): Revised the S2000M again for the support of both military product and non-militaryproduct; a set of XML messages was introduced, based on the objective to support exchange of data withother IPS disciplines.
• Issue 7.0 (2021): Will introduce new Chapter 2 & 3 modelling, PBL and ITAR information; MALE RPAS andFCAS are planning to use.

standards which exist for the exchange of information under the S2000M procedures.
Chapter 5 Data dictionary• The Data Dictionary is a catalogue of all the Data
Elements utilized in the S2000M. Its purpose is to identify the standardized names, definitions and attributes to ensure a common understanding and application of the data elements.
New Features into S2000M Issue 6.1
• A simplification of the Provisioning process using a common IPS Data Model for the ASD Suite of IPS Specifications.
• A simplification of the Pricing, Order Administration and Invoicing into one Material Supply Process.
• Introduction of a new SPL (Spare Parts List) message, alternative to complete Provisioning process;
• A reduction of the different types of transactions and their content.
• Use of UML Data Models provides easy interrelation/interface to the other IPS disciplines/Specifications.
• A change of the message structure to XML, where XSD (XML Schema Definition) provide structure and check rules for the XML message.
• Changes that aim to allow for easier integration of S2000M into widely used ERP systems.

Future Development of S2000M (Issue 7.0)
Corrections / minor improvements on Chapter 1 textual part and modelling (Chapter 1 Data Model was already in line with Common Data Model logics).
Modelling for Chapter 2 and 3 completely reworked to be in line with Common Data Model logics. Reworked layout in line with S-Series authoring rules.
Inclusion of Performance Based Logistics (PBL), to integrate and cover in S2000M a modern material management concept.
Addition of ITAR (and other national or international regulations).
Benefits from Usage of S2000M
25
S2000M defines optimized process, rules and common formats for Material Management activities; itcomprises all the Material Management Processes, however due to modular content can be applied alsoto specific sub-processer, if require to reduce timescales, complexity and costs.
S2000M provides processes that can be tailored to specific Program requirements; for non-complexprojects it is possible to use, instead of “full” S2000M application, simplified process and procedures.
S2000M enables sharing and exchange of information between Industries, Customers and Organizations, using a data interchange standard (based on XML) that can be easily implemented.
S2000M, when applied together with other ASD-AIA IPS Specifications, enables the re-use of dataoriginated by other processes and the delivery of structured information for other IPS processes, supporting the implementation of a common IPS data repository.
S2000M usage can support the optimization of stocks level, reduce administrative effort and, at the end, increase operational availability of systems/products.
S2000M contractualization into Product Support Contracts is recommended. Synergy between Italian Industry and MoD and participation to the Working Groups is recommended.
