Hello members, Parents, Families and Friends and welcome to the final newsletter for the 2019-2020 summer season.

Firstly with all of the goings on surrounding the covid-19 virus, we hope that you are all keeping safe and well, these are very difficult times for everyone and we look forward to the times when life can return to normal and that we can all enjoy of the simple things.

As for the baseball finals, well what an end to the season it was! Starting with the Masters, the guys had a remarkable game at home taking on Essendon Jets, who have been their best opponents by far all season. The Eagles won the game 3-2 in a 10 innings game which is almost unheard of at this level. Congratulations to Luke Searle and his band of players who thoroughly deserved the win which made club history being the first back, to back, to back, to back Premiership.

The Women’s team were the next finalist team to make it to the big dance and what a dance it was. The teams battery was Andrea and Kat behind the dish, who were solid in their defence and well supported by the teammates in the field, but it was a blistering display of hitting in the first inning scoring 14 runs that set the ladies up for certain victory. It was a great game and well coached by Jim Kelly and base coached by Phil Harris and Marc McKenner, who kept sending the ladies on their merry way around 3rd base. Well done to all involved and for bringing a Women's Team Premiership flag to the clubrooms for the first time in 23 years.

Our Firsts also had a truly remarkable season that will go down in the history books as our best ever in 32 years. The team came so close to winning the Championship, that it still feels a bit surreal and a feeling that over time we will come to grips with. Over the page we will discuss a few more points on the overall season, as well as posting some fine words from Club Coach Stuart Clayton.

EAGLES

Wow what a season, Im so proud of each and everyone that put on the EAGLES uniform. I'd like to thank some very special people who have given me such assistance this season im very lucky to have so many wonderful Assistant coaches . Gavin Young who game day does a fantastic job helping out coaching 3rd base doing the signals, and the opposition team scouting sheets, as well as helping out with the running of the game day situations, thanks mate i know you love this club and give your absolute all every week. Jordan Young who this season stepped up and took a major role in looking after the Infielders, Everyone knows Jordy is very quiet and lets his baseball do all the talking , but this season he has put in a lot of work with all our infielders and that is part of the reason that defensively we are a very tight unit. Jeremy Young who this season took control of the clubs pitching staff it was fantastic to see our club pitchers doing there bullpens every training session under the guidance of someone of his quality. Leigh Davis thanks mate i know your work commitments made it hard to be at training but the help you give on game day at 1st base and with game day suggestions i really appreciate it. Luke Searle little (skipper) thanks for the Assistance you give on game day the best pitch counter in the business., and bench coach (same seats). Also to the guys who came down and threw Batting Practice and helped hitting fungo's , Todd Grego ,Earl Byrne Eagle Hirsty, Chad Galloway , Ryan Jennings many hands make it easier for me to structure positive training sessions. To the Baseball Club committee thankyou for everything you do for me allowing me to do what we need to do to be successful, To Rob Browne Graham May Marc McKenner your support from day one has been fantastic. Mike Ashburn, Coral Wallis Jo Gatt thankyou for doing the scoring and the game changer ap , its great to be able to have the game followed by our supporters when they cant make it to the games. To Debbie Clayton Cassidy Clayton your support and passion this season has been fantastic i love you guys heaps To Rambo and Sandy Rand thankyou for everything you guys do around the club in the Bar and Canteen. Im sorry this is so long but i needed to say thankyou hopefully i haven't forgotten anyone and apologize for any Spelling and Grammar errors in advance. The playing group should be very proud of what we achieved this season and hopefully it drives each and everyone to go to the next level next season . Club Coach Magoo .

MESSAGE FROM CLUB COACH STUART CLAYTON

The finals series for the Firsts had it all. After the first series against Geelong when we had the walk off win in the bottom of the ninth

against Geelong, the buzz around the Eagles Dome was something special. Everyone was dreaming of the holy grail of division one

baseball, but we knew that we had a lot of work ahead of ourselves, so we did our best to keep it low key. After the first game with

Blackburn, when they beat us 9 runs to 1, we knew that the Eagles had their back up against the wall, but at the same time we knew that

they are a team that doesn't give in and game 2 was a telling story, as we turned the tables and beat Blackburn 4 runs to 1. Game 3 was a

different game altogether, with the Eagles getting the early runs, then Blackburn came back with a couple of their own and from the 6th

innings were chasing them. After a late serge in the bottom of the ninth, we almost pulled of a miracle win after being 2 runs down and

batting with 2 out, we had the tying run sitting on 3rd base, before we flied out to Blackburn, it was true heartbreak for the Eagles and

their loyal supporters who were proudly following the Eagles in this most remarkable season. It is difficult when there has been so much

hard work put into the season, only to lose the opportunity so late in the game, but the season cannot be defined by 1 game, our season

was one of the best in decades and one that the Eagles members and supporters will never forget, thank you Stu and to all of your

support staff for the fond memories.

EAGLES NOTICE BOARD

The last of our 3 junior presentation nights for the summer season was held on Friday night. A few weeks ago we had the Tee & Rookie ball players, followed by the Little league and Friday night we celebrated the Intermediate and Junior league teams. Gavin Fisher and his volunteers did a wonderful job of organising the events and in his first year of being Junior Coordinator, he can look back on a wonderful season and Sunshine Baseball Club and its members can rest assured, that the junior program is in very good hands. Also a huge thank you to all of the wonderful coaches, scorers, assistants and volunteers for everything you all do, as without you giving up your time, we wouldn't have a junior program at all. Also honoured on the evening was Robert Blackmore, for his organising of the Fighting Obesity Program that proved free fruit for all of the junior teams throughout the season, what a great initiative.

Dear Members and Parents, In regards to the pending Junior Winter baseball season, please see the press release from Melbourne Winter Baseball League below re the effect of the covid-19 virus. I will keep you all informed via e-mail as to any further updates. Regards Glenn Letts Junior Secretary SBC

As of now, all baseball operations have been halted, effective immediately for 3 weeks, until April 7th, where re-assessment will be conducted. The Winter Associations/Leagues are all working with BV, to co-ordinate, inform and plan for this major and intense event. As we are all governed by Baseball Victoria, I would advise everyone to ensure they are following the BV Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/baseballvictoria) and regularly checking the Baseball Victoria website for updates (https://www.baseballvictoria.com.au) . As you can imagine, the situation is continually evolving, and as such, everyone needs to keep monitor-ing updates from all areas, to make the best decisions for our players and community as possible. What does this mean for your clubs, your baseball?

• No more in-person meetings (Committee’s, etc)

• No trainings for either junior or senior levels

• No come and try days

• No baseball, or club activity of any kind. So, what is the future for the 2020 winter season? The MWBL is working with Baseball Victoria, and all the winter leagues / associations / clubs to devise a plan for the 2020 season. At this point, with the season still into the future, and outside of the quarantine period, we are hoping to continue our season unaltered. However, prudency will mean that we will need to consider all options before the time arises. If the season can begin on April 18th as planned, we will be working with clubs to ensure we are all prepared for the season start, and assisting with all preparations possible. We will also be working with Baseball Victoria to ensure a smooth start to the season, and coverage for any issues requiring assistance. If the season starts appears as though it will be delayed by this unprecedented event, we will communicate plans as quickly as practical. We are meeting and discussing possible options for what this will look like from a playing / fixturing / competition structure point of view. As the board works through these possibilities, rest assured we will be working with the clubs to ensure the options we are looking at are acceptable, and practical.

JUNIORS WINTER SEASON ON HOLD

As you all may be aware by now, due to the current environment regarding the COVID-19 virus we as a sporting organisation have decided to postpone the Senior Presentation Night that was scheduled for this Saturday, March 21st to an alternative date to be determined. In making this decision we have taken advice from Baseball Victoria and considering the updated directive from the Government limiting gatherings to 100. We believe this is the most appropriate course of action keeping in mind the health of our members and to minimise the risk of exposure to COVID-19. As you can appreciate these are difficult times and feel we had no other choice but to postpone the event. We ask for your patience whilst we work through this situation. Once we’ve been able to secure an alternative date further communication will follow outlining the new arrangements and alternatives in regards to your outlay for the function. We are all disappointed we won’t be able to celebrate (yet!) the outstanding season we’ve just had but the current situation with the virus is bigger than anything we have seen before and as a sporting club we need to take the necessary steps to ensure the well-being of our members. Your understanding and support is appreciated. Regards Robert Browne President Sunshine Baseball Club
