Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion Training Specific for the homebound

and infirm.

If you are interested in taking the Holy Eucharist to those who cannot attend Mass, please attend the train-

ing session to be held here at Saint Theresa Catholic Church.

When: Monday, May 22, 2017 Time: 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. Where: Sanctuary of the church

This training is for both experi-enced and new ministers. Please call the church office to register.

F P ’ Dear Parishioners, I would like to extend a special thanks to those who participated in the recent planning study we conducted here at St. Theresa’s. We re-ceived a wonderful response from the parish—feedback that is ex-tremely beneficial as we look to the future of our parish. After gathering and analyzing data from the study, representatives from the Steier Group reported their findings to the parish staff, the Finance and Pastoral Councils and the School Board on April 19. Some of the highlights from the report:

• Reducing the parish debt scored highest among the items tested • 78 % of participants are in favor of a capital campaign—

including 94 % of those interviewed • 75 % of participants indicated they will support a capital cam-

paign—including 90 % of those interviewed • 66 participants indicated they are willing to serve as a campaign

leader Based on the information above, the Steier Group recommended that our parish move forward with a major fundraising effort. Our coun-cils, school board and staff, after a careful review of the findings and recommendations, voted in full agreement to proceed with a capital campaign. Of course, you can expect to hear more about this important project in the coming weeks and months. It’s my pledge to keep you well-informed. Once again, thank you for participating in this critical study for St. Theresa Catholic Church. Your input has been extremely beneficial and will help to ensure the success of our upcoming campaign. With the Lord guiding us and our parish, and with the intercession of our Patroness, the Little Flower, I have no doubt our efforts will be abun-dantly blessed. Yours in the Risen Christ,

Ytà{xÜ XâÜxÄ `tÇétÇÉ

RITO DE INICIACION CRISTIANA PARA ADULTOS (RICA) Estimados feligreses,

Saint Theresa’s Annual Bazaar

Watch this space for more Ministry Spotlights. If you would like to learn more about or get in-volved in any of our ministries, contact us via the website (sugarlandcatholic.com) or by phone. Feel free to contact the ministry coordinator directly. We would love to hear from you!

Saint Theresa’s Annual Bazaar has been in existence for 48 years, and is the primary community-building and fundraising event for the parish out-side the Sunday Mass and Collection. Each year, new committee members enhance the bazaar experience for the community by adding new games, foods, and entertainment.

Through their time, talent, and generosity, many volunteers create an oppor-tunity for fellowship within

the parish and the wider Sugar Land community. They also help meet the

many material needs of the church that the Sunday col-

lection can’t fully cover. The 2017 bazaar, which took place last weekend, was another successful and fun-filled event for our parish, grossing more than $100,000. It was also the product of a lot of hard work from several committee members, booth chairs and volunteers— too many to list or count. Special thanks go out to the persons who stepped forward to take care of the planning, organizing and hard la-bor that such an event requires: Planning & Organizing: Annette Shin-sky, Mark Duluyanun, Beth Martinez,

Debbie Kutra, & Marsha Kreimeyer; Hard Labor: Many men from the Knights of Columbus and several volunteers.

If you would like to get involved in helping with, and improving, next year’s Bazaar (2018), feel free to contact the 2018 Chairpersons below:

G S M : The hopelessness and sadness that comes from experiencing the loss of a loved one can leave us frozen in place, just trying to cope with everyday life. Support groups are an important tool for finding hope and coping tools on this journey. We are a group of compassionate lay people who also have experienced the death of someone we dearly loved. Join us to listen and share, because no one should grieve alone! For more information please contact Sandy Barber at 832-451-9117 or [email protected]. Perpetual Adoration Ministry: The perpetual adoration ministry is a Eucharistic devotion where people commit to taking an hour to praise and worship Jesus before the Most Blessed Sac-rament. The hour you sign up for is spent in silent prayer and meditation. You may bring your own prayer books, use the books in the chapel, read the Bible, pray the rosary, or just sit and enjoy the peace that comes from simply being in the Presence of God. Adoration is in the Emmaus Chapel, it is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. For more information please contact Re-becca Freeman (281) 844-4616. C U : Our vision is to be a service ministry organi-zation, effectively using our gifts and talents to serve the needs within and outside our community. Our mission is to actively encourage involvement in church activities by members of our Spanish-speaking community, to take the lead in celebrating reli-gious feasts, to be available and lend a helping hand to both the church and fellow parishioners, and to promote higher education by granting scholarships to graduating high school seniors who are registered parishioners. For more information please contact George Morales, Jr. at 281-565-5469. L C M : The Lay Carmelites are an order, not an organization. They are one of the oldest religious orders that follow the contemplative life. They live their daily lives in a secular society, evangelizing, serving, and following the examples of the many Carmelite Saints. For more infor-mation please contact Tonie Arizpe at 832-715-6281. P C : The Pastoral Council is made up of 12 members elected to three-year terms who represent parishioners, parish ministries, and parish organiza-tions. The Council serves in a consultative capacity with the Pastor by bringing forth concerns from the community and working with the Pastor to resolve them. The Council also coordinates parish events and helps the parish meet the needs of the parishioners. The Council meets month-ly. Alan Phipps is the current Chairman: 281-410-1856.

M B B Please contact Cheryl Pospisil ([email protected]) with any updates to the Military bulletin board in the narthex. This in-cludes adding new pictures or updating the information currently on the board. Photos (with accompanying descriptions) can also be dropped off at the church office.

Spiritual Direction at St. Theresa’s Christian spiritual direction supports the belief that God wants a personal relationship with each of us. A spiritual director helps a believer pay attention to God’s communication to him or her, to respond to God, to grow in intimacy with God and to live out the consequences of this relationship. At St. Theresa’s, spiritual direction is offered by certified spir-itual directors who have specialized spiritual training, knowledge of the Catholic tradition and of human development. They adhere to the Guidelines for Ethical Conduct promulgated by Spiritual Directors International. They offer a non-judgmental and confidential presence while recognizing that the Holy Spirit is the true director in Christian spiritual direction. The spiritual directors at St. Theresa do not personally accept compensation. Directees may make free-will donations to St. Theresa Catholic Church, if they wish. The focus of a spiritual direction session is your life with God as it is lived out in your experiences. What is reflected upon is your prayer experiences, your images of God, questions about faith, your particular joys, sadness, fears, doubts and desires. Spiritual Directors meet with directees approximately once a month for an hour or so in a space designated for such purposes on the church grounds. Please note that Spiritual Direction is not counseling, problem solving or advice giving. It is not a prayer session. It is not a quick fix solution to a crisis situation. It is, rather, helping another develop a deeper relationship with God, a relationship that can keep growing deeper to the end of our lives. To begin Spiritual Direction, fill out the questionnaire on the parish web site or from the parish office. For more information, call 281-494-1156, Ext 222.
