Pope at Angelus: ‘Remember date of

your Baptism’ Ahead of the Sunday Angelus prayer, Pope Francis urges each of us to remember the date of our Baptism, and reflects on Jesus’ two-fold immersion at his own Baptism in the Jordan. By Devin Watkins Pope Francis had a seemingly simple question for everyone present at the Angelus prayer in St. Peter’s Square: “Which of you knows the date of your Baptism?” He invited everyone who doesn’t to find out from their parents, grandparents, or godparents and to celebrate that date every year. Two-fold immersion The Pope’s invitation came as the Church celebrated the Solemnity of the Baptism of Our Lord. Reflecting on the readings at Mass, Pope Francis said Jesus underwent a two-fold immersion at his Baptism. In human condition First, Jesus was immersed in the crowd, he said. “He unites himself to them, thus completely assuming the human condition, sharing everything with them, except sin.” The Pope said Jesus’ Baptism in the Jordan is also an epiphany, because it takes place “in the midst of the penitent people”, where Jesus “manifests the logic and the sense of his mission.” He said Jesus shared the people’s “profound desire for interior renewal.” In prayer After being immersed in the water of the Jordan, the Pope said, Jesus was “immersed in prayer, that is, in communion with the Father.” Jesus begins his mission of manifesting God’s love for humanity with his Baptism. “Such a mission is accomplished through constant and perfect union with the Father and with the Holy Spirit,” the Pope said. Pope Francis said this means “being continually regenerated in prayer, evangelization and apostolic works so as to give clear Christian witness”. Renew baptismal promises Finally, the Pope said the Baptism of the Lord is an opportunity to renew our own baptismal promises, “committing ourselves to live daily in a manner consistent with it.” “May Jesus, who saved us not through any merit of our own but in order to demonstrate the immense goodness of the Father, make us merciful toward everyone.”

We need your help! Saint Theresa’s asks you to consider a wonderful and rewarding way to share your time and gifts. Our parish needs Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion to serve the three hospitals and ten assisted living facilities under our care. The patients and residents are unable to join us for Mass, so WE go to THEM. Each week, we visit these facilities, bringing the Eucharist

and the latest bulletin to each small Catholic population. We need more volunteers. We need you! Requirements: Be a practicing Catholic, baptized & confirmed. Time involved: Approximately one hour twice a month; weekend or weekday. Training: Will be conducted by our coordinator as she conducts a Visit to the Sick with Holy Communion training on Wednesday, January 23rd in the church at 11:00 am OR at 6:30 pm (you can attend either session). You will see first-hand how to provide this important service, ask questions, and "shadow" one of our volunteers until you feel confident to take on this ministry solo (you and a partner can do this together if you prefer). Goal: It is our goal to have enough volunteers assigned to each facility so that the schedule can be spread out amongst several persons and no one is expected to do more than he/she can comfortably cover. We need substitutes as well, so if you can't commit to a regular schedule, please receive the training so you can assist when emergency coverage is needed. If everyone does something, no one has to do everything. Please call or text Kate Barton at (281) 250-1347 with any questions you may have, or to set up a time to join her at a Visit to the Sick with Holy Communion (her number is also in the bulletin under Pastoral Care).

Thank you!

PRAYER FOR MY FAMILY

Loving God, I offer thanks for the gift of my family. Help us to work together for peace and harmony in

our relationships.

Grant us the grace to accept each other’s faults and weaknesses. Protect us

from harsh words and hurt feelings. Assist us to encourage one another’s

strengths and abilities. Lead us to mutual understanding and support.

May we always forgive each other’s failings

and rejoice in one another’s successes.

Watch over my family, Dear Lord. Bless us with good health and happiness. Fill our hearts with love, patience and kindness

for one another, now and always. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

A peaceful, prayerful presence outside an abortion clinic has shown to be effective in preventing abortion. Sidewalk advocacy goes further.

• Trained volunteers approach women entering the clinic, offering help and

hope to redirect them to a nearby pregnancy help center. • Sidewalk advocacy continues year round, and focuses on covering the

hours the clinic is open. A local program may begin with one day a week, and grow to eventually cover all the hours a clinic is open.

Sidewalk Advocacy Training

Saturday February 16, 2019 at 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. St. Clare Room in the St. Laurence Ave Maria Center

Cost is $15.00; lunch will be provided.

Advance registration required. Contact Marie McCoy: 281-610-3986 or [email protected] Christian Voices for Life will begin sidewalk advocacy in March, outside the Women's

Center of Houston located at 8200 Wednesbury Lane (Suite 230), Houston, TX.
