The service is also for people with health conditions at risk of being isolated from their community, and for those at risk of depression or loneliness due to ill health or other factors.

We welcome referrals from carers and relatives, GPs, health and social care staff, voluntary and community groups and self referrals.

What does Caring Connections offer?• Friendship groups for older Haringey

residents with long-term health conditions to improve their quality of life.

• Opportunities for people living with health conditions to help and encourage each other.

• A support programme to enable people to have better control over their health, so that they can stay in touch with friends and keep socially active.

How does Caring Connections work?• Caring Connections runs local groups

offering mutual support, friendship, and social activities in a supportive setting.

• Our friendship groups are fully inclusive and welcoming and all venues are easily accessible.

• Volunteers help older people to regain confidence, make new friends and enjoy outside interests.

• Volunteers encourage people to link up, share information and get involved in community activities.

• Caring Connections empowers individuals and communities to maintain strong social networks.

‘Meeting friends at Caring Connections is the highlight of the week, helping me to escape from my four walls.’ Mr C.B.

Could you be a Caring Connections volunteer? If you think you’d fit one of the roles below, we can provide you with training, support and supervision. We need:

• Volunteers to help with all aspects of running Caring Connections friendship groups.

• Volunteers to support isolated older people to overcome barriers, mix with each other and keep in contact with local friends.

• Volunteers with personal, family or work experience of long-term health conditions who can offer peer support to others.
