ACROSS THE DIOCESE…

MARCH FOR LIFE 46TH ANNIVERSARY Saturday, January 22, 2019 marks the 46th anniversary of the Supreme Court’s infamous abortion-on-demand ruling. Because of that decision, millions of pre-born babies have been denied their most basic right – their right to life. On Friday, January 18, 2019, people from across the nation will assemble in Washington, D.C. to visibly express their oppostion to abortions. On Thursday, January 17, 2019 at 9:00 PM, buses sponsored by the Connecticut Right to Life Eastern Chapter will leave from the Norwich Municipal Parking Lot (Exit 11, I-395) and travel to D.C. to attend the March For Life on Friday, January 18, 2019. Bus Fare is $67 per person If you are unable to attend the March For Life, please consider sponsoring a seat on the bus. For further information and/or to reserve a seat or to sponsor a seat, please call Margaret Becotte at (860)822-1362.

22ND Annual Mass of Thanksgiving for

The Gift of Consecrated Life

Cathedral of St. Patrick in Norwich

Sunday, February 3, 2019 @ 10:30 AM

All are invited to join Bishop Cote in thanking God for the gift of consecrated life and the sisters, brothers, and religious priests who enrich the Church and build up God’s Kingdom with the witness of their religious commitment. The homilist will be Father Erik Lenhart, Consecrated Life for the Diocese of Norwich and currently a chaplain for the Capuchin Youth and Family Ministries (CYFM) in Garrison, New York.

VOCAL CHORDS ACCEPTING NEW MEMBERS

AND SCHOLARSHIP APPLICANTS

The Middlesex Hospital Vocal Chords will resume rehearsals on Tuesday, January 15, 2019 in preparation for their spring concert to be held on

Saturday, May 4th. Our motto is "Lift Spirits, Relieve Stress and Heal Souls with Music". If you need some uplifting, then why not join us? Rehearsals are held every Tuesday evening at

6:45pm at St. Francis Church, Msgr. Fox Parish Hall, 10 Elm St., Middletown. No auditions are necessary but proper choral singing capabilities are required.

You do not need to be a hospital employee to join. The only requirement is that you love to sing and are willing to make a commitment. All men and women age 18 and over are welcome. Visit

http://www.vocalchords20.org or call 860.342.3120. The Executive Board is also requesting applications for their annual scholarships (minimum of $1000) to be awarded to deserving Middlesex County students

pursuing a career in nursing or music. They must have been accepted at an accredited college or university with one of these majors. Applications are

available at the Guidance office or visit

http://www.vocalchords20.org or call 860.349.2042.

“Warming Center Outreach” St. John’s Church is hosting the “Warming Center” this year from January 14th to February 25th. We are asking our parishioners to provide the following snacks to those

who are less fortunate during these two months: hot

cocoa packets, tea bags, individual salty snack packets, disposable hot cups, Lysol wipes & spray,

Febreze and hand sanitizers. Any donation can be placed in the bins located in the back of the Church. Thank you for your continued generosity.

There will be no shaking of hands during

the flu season

Knights of Columbus, Chapter 3

I would like to reorganize and revitalize Our Knights

of Columbus Chapter 3 so we can continue to stay

strong in the community. A meeting is scheduled for

Monday, January 14 at 7:00 PM in the Church Hall

of St. Sebastian Church. All present and past

members are encouraged to attend. Anyone interested

in joining this “most important church organization

in the world” is invited to attend!

Father James, Chaplain

“John answered them all, 'I baptize you with water;

but He who is mightier than I is coming…He will

baptize you with the Holy Spirit…'” (LUKE 3:16)

The Catholic Catechism states that “Jesus’ immersion

in the water is a sign for all human beings of the need

to die to themselves to do God’s will.” In other words,

as baptized Catholics there is only one gift that we need

to give to Jesus-the Gift of ourselves. Surrender

yourself to God, lace your trust in Him and allow the

Holy Spirit to work through you for the greater glory of

God.
