THE KERYGMA: IT'S GOOD NEWS!

Imagine the gray, metal doors of the elevator closing and the person standing awkwardly inthe corner asks you about the Crucifix hanging from your neck. She's never heard anythingabout Jesus and asks you to explain Christianity before you get to the 5th floor. What youtell her about the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ is what we would call "TheKerygma." The primary components of the Kerygma include:

CHRISTIANITY IS A RELATIONSHIP

and even taste God in the Eucharist. There isno more intimate of a relationship than that! While the Sacraments, especially theEucharist, is the fullest way to experienceChrist, we also encounter Him in many otherways, like through creation, prayer, contemplation, the communion of saints, scripture, the works of mercy, and more.Every moment of our lives - including andespecially our sufferings - are opportunitiesto know Christ and nourish our relationship. Today we will explore this idea and help youto find ways to spend time with God.

God loves you. We profess in our faith that our God is not some distant, disinterestedbeing. He wants to have a relationship with you. Relationships are not something you learnbut something that you experience. As Catholics, we believe that we can literally touch, see,

The Fathers of the Church spoke of God’s two books, the Holy Scriptures and the Book ofNature. The scriptures reveal God in his love and mercy while the book of nature clearly revealsGod’s “eternal power and divine nature.” The glory and grandeur of the created world lifts ourhearts to the heavens, for we see in it a generous God who gives good things with abundance.

DAILY CHALLENGE:

"IN THE CREATION OF THE WORLD AND OF MAN, GOD GAVE THE FIRST

AND UNIVERSAL WITNESS TO HIS ALMIGHTY LOVE AND HIS WISDOM" -CCC 315

Your challenge today is to get outside and contemplate God inHis Creation. Here are some ideas for how you can do that, alongwith some ideas for reflection:

Take a nature walkHike to a high pointListen to the sounds of a river

Do some gardeningSit by a lakeGo Bird Watching

God created the world; He is not the world. It is easy to be in awewhen standing at the foot of a mountain. But, the mountain is notGod. Calling nature God is like calling a cupcake the baker. We can, however, come to know something about God from His creation. St. Augustine once wrote:

And what is the object of my love? I asked the earth and it said: “it isnot I.” I asked all that is in it; they made the same confession. Iasked the sea, the deeps, the living creatures that creep, and theyresponded: “We are not your God, look beyond us.” I asked thebreezes which blow and the entire air with its inhabitants said:“Anaximenes was mistaken; I am not God.” I asked heaven, sun, moon, and stars; they said: “Nor are we the God whom you seek.”And I said to all these things in my external environment: “Tell meof my God who you are not, tell me something about him.” And witha great voice they cried out: “He made us.” My question was theattention I gave to them and their response was their beauty.

List some of the differences between the stories. Why do you thinkGod would reveal the story of creation to us in two different forms? What truths or takeaways can be found each story?

Read the Creation stories in the Bible (Yep, there are TWO!): Genesis 1-3

JOURNAL

Do you see God in Nature? Have you ever been blown away by thebeauty of creation? What was the spiritual significance for you?

In what other ways have you encountered Christ? What ways wouldyou like to experlore or get better at?
