eZ is proud to host the 8th annual eZ Conference in Berlin on the 24th and 25th of June. This Web Content Management & Digital Media conference is attended by hundreds of industry leaders and experts every year, and all web professionals, including the entire eZ Ecosystem, are invited. The regular Partner meeting is held on the 23rd.

eZ Conference 2010 has a wide but focused appeal. eZ’s commit-ment to free and Open Source software means that its ecosystem includes some of the brightest, well-informed professionals world-wide. eZ Publish 4.3 Beta is availableeZ Systems has announced the availability of a beta version of eZ Publish 4.3, the forthcoming new version of its flagship software.

Moving from alpha to beta, this new pre-version of eZ Publish is making one step further towards the final release expected on March 30th.

This new version of eZ Publish provides a wide range of improvements in various fields. It includes a redesign of its administration interface in order to provide a more efficient and easy to use experience to editors, some improve-ments to RSS publishing, better User Generated Content (UGC), improvement into the Enterprise Grade Search Plug-in eZ Find to offer more capacity to handle multilingual content repositories, the full certification and support for eZ Teamroom, the collaborative solution built on top of eZ Publish and a wide set of enhancements and fixes to improve the overall quality of the solution.

Site of the month interview with GyldendalThe Norwegian publishing house Gyldendal won the Site of The Month contest, and we have had a talk with Morten Nilsen from the IT departement Boklink that implemented eZ Publish as their CMS platform.

eZ: Please tell us a bit about yourself and your company.Morten Nilsen: Boklink is an IT-department owned by “De norske Bokklubbene”, we are working for customers like Gyldendal, Aschehoug, Bokklubben, Ark, Norli, Forlagsentralen, Kunnskapsforlaget, Bokkilden. We are pretty much working for publishing firms, systems and e-marketers who make and sell books and other culture products and information. I am the leader of the web-department in Boklink, we also have and SAP- and Infra-department, all together we are about 40 employees in Boklink

eZ: What made you opt for the eZ Publish platform?Morten Nilsen: We read and heard about eZ Publish, and we talked with a few companies who were using it – it all seemed very positive so we decided to download and try it.

eZ: What features in eZ Publish did you use for the Gyldendal site?Morten Nilsen: Since Gyldendal is a publishing company, the site’s main purpose is to promote books. A good pre-sentation and easy access to adding information about the books via the website toolbar was therefore a success factor. The site provides functionality for the editors to generate book reports in different formats. This is accom-plished by using the filtering-possibilities in eZ Find combined with ezodf for converting to open office as the base for further converting to other formats. More than ten thousand book and author descriptions, many including im-ages, was imported from the old site using the third party extension Data Import.

Gyldendal.no is a Norwegian site, but the well integrated translation possibilities in eZ made it easy to implement the need for book presentations in English in the English section of the site. The site includes a complete webshop solution, based on the shop in ezwebin. We had to make some adjustments to the shop to improve it and to custom-ize it to meet our needs, but the ezwebin-shop worked as a good basis for our development. We use eZjscore to, amongst others, update the shopping basket. In addition to using a lot from ezwebin extension, we also used ezvid-eoflv for video presentations of books.

eZ: Can you tell us more about the integration with existing databases and your product portfolio?Morten Nilsen: We have integrated eZ with SAP, using eZ Publish possibility to create new datatypes, Mentor (Nor-wegian publishers common database of published books) and Tibet (payment solution).

eZ: Are you planning more projects with eZ Publish?Morten Nilsen: We have chosen eZ Publish as a platform for the future. We are making websites with very different kinds of functionalities and eZ seems to do it all very well. So far we have made gyldendal.no, karrieremagasinet.no, utdanningsmagasinet.no and some intranet on eZ Publish, and this autumn we will make 3 – 4 new websites on eZ. Regarding gyldendal.no, eZ Gold partner Netmaking was also greatly involved in the project as an implementa-tion partner and helped eZ and Boklink in the development of the site.

Norwegian Prime Minister invited eZ to discuss business and industrial policyNorwegian Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg has together with several other ministers invited a small group of business leaders to a meeting this Tuesday in Porsgrunn Norway.

The theme of the meeting is business development, restructuring and efforts to establish future-oriented jobs. Among the participants are representatives of both relatively young companies and for companies that have under-gone restructuring.

Co Founder Aleksander Farstad represents eZ in this meeting and will share eZ`s experience in their global software business.
