LIVING THE PASCHAL MYSTERY The gospel story about Peter reminds us that Jesus takes the initiative with us, his disciples. He sees who we truly are and call us by name, even to the point of giving us a new name! Once we are known by Jesus, there is no need to “perform” or “meet targets”. We may rest in the knowledge that we are known by him. Like Simon Peter, we each have a destiny, a purpose, and meaning. Like Andrew, we also have a mission, and that is to proclaim Jesus to others. Only by Andrew’s proclamation did Simon learn about Jesus. And Andrew learned about Jesus by John the Baptist’s testimony. In our own lives we recognize that we have learned about Jesus from someone else, whether a parent, grandparent, teacher, or friend. We too tell another about Jesus. In this way, Christian faith is passed from one generation to the next. Evangelization is a hallmark of Christian identity from the beginning. as we see in today’s gospel. May we have zeal for evangelization that comes from the surety that we are known personally by Jesus.

Sometimes it is difficult to hear God's call. We are trained to listen attentively and to hear many things, but spiritual ones are often missed. God is calling us all of the time. He is calling us to drink deeply of the well of life and not get distracted by the superficial and short-lasting things we choose to cling to. Have we ever given a true spiritual life and relationship with God a chance? Jesus says to us today, "Come, and you will see." May we take Jesus up on his invitation and like Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter, be able to exclaim: "We have found the Messiah."

This Sunday at the 10:00AM Mass, Brittany Plesnik publicly declared her intention to continue her journey toward full initiation into the Catholic Church. For several weeks Brittany has been meeting to ask questions and explore her belief about God. From this point on she will gather at Mass to hear the Word of God and then be dismissed after the homily to further re-flect on the meaning of the Sunday Scriptures in her life and to learn more about what it means to be Catholic. Adults who are interested in becoming Catholic are prepared for initiation in a process called The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA). EVERYDAY STEWARDSHIP

Have you ever been somewhere public and days later others said they saw you there? You can find yourself surprised that they saw you and didn't say hello. However, at least they saw you. You, on the other hand, didn't even have any idea they were around you. You may have been oblivious to what was going on or those crossing your path on that day. You may have been forsaking that moment thinking about another time to come down the road. Imagine being one of those who first encountered Jesus as he began his ministry. Would you have noticed? I would like to think that I would have rushed over to him to introduce myself. But on that day when he passed on by, I just might have been caught up in life, unaware of all that was intersecting with my place in the world. An everyday steward strives to live mindfully. The more mindful we are of all that is around us, the more grateful we find ourselves because we take things less for granted, and the more open we are to the call of Jesus Christ. Every day Jesus crosses our path in the form of others. They may be in need, or they may have a gift to offer us. Either way, without living in the present and taking in all that God has provided for us in the day, we can miss it. I would not want to hear afterwards that Jesus saw me, and I was not paying attention enough to what was around me to notice.
