ST. FRANCOIS COUNTY COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIP’S
Each year there is a
Back-To-School Fair
held in St. Francois
County to help those
i n c o m e - q u a l i f i e d
individuals who are
struggling to provide school supplies for their
children. In the past it was headed up by
East Missouri Action Agency (EMAA), but due
to policy changes, they needed to find
another sponsor for the event. This year
Young Faith In Christ (YFC) will be the lead
organization in charge of the event with EMAA
assisting with screening for income eligibility.
St. Francois County Community Partnership is
also partnering with YFC to make the Fair
happen.
It is an amazing time for children and their
families, as they are not only provided with
things like school supplies and back packs,
but there are several stations at the Fair that
the children can go that offer everything from
nutritional information to a local church
handing out free t-shirts. It is a day in which
hundreds of kids and their families are
assisted with a huge area of need. It is a day
when parents can stop worrying about how
they will provide
pencils or notebooks
or other school
supplies for their
children and they can
focus on their children
succeeding.
There are always many different partners
and agencies throughout our community

YFC Takes on Back-To-School Fair From EMAA
New Mineral Area College Training Programs Area health facilities identified workforce
employment/training gaps in the Mineral Area
College (MAC) service area, which lead to
MAC's submission of two new career training
programs within the MOHealthWINS grant
proposal. The two programs are Pharmacy
Tech and Maintenance Technician (Health
Care Facility)
Through this grant they are aiming to train 84
individuals and serve 36 degree seeking
students plus others in short term credential
programs.
The Pharmacy Tech program is a 12 week
program. There are approximately 3,000 new
jobs expected to open up in this field in the
next 7 years.
The Maintenance Tech program will have an
HVAC component. Stackable credentials will
be offered within the college's existing
advanced manufacturing program.
A student Services/Retention Specialist will
begin work on June 1st. This individual will
work with the program participants
throughout their training. Remediation,
internships and job placement services will
be provided to these students. Participants
targeted through the grant include the
Underemployed, Unemployed, TAA workers
and individuals in need of retraining. Tuition
is free for qualified participants.

that participate and make the Fair happen, and YFC will
need all the help they can get to make this year’s fair a
success. YFC feels that there will be a seamless transition
from EMAA to YFC because most of their programs and
ministries already involve at-risk children, and this is just
another way they can care for and love the community and
the families in it, especially during these tough economic
times.
This year’s Fair is August 4, the first Saturday in August, at
Central High School Field House. They are in need of
donations of money and school supplies as the total cost
for this project is around $10,000. It will take the entire
community to pitch in and make
this happen. They are looking
for churches, work places, and
civic groups to adopt one item
from a supply list, either
purchasing the item or donating
the money for that item. Also,
they are in need of 15-20 volunteers to prepare the
supplies and assist on the day of the fair.
If you can assist in any way, call Young Faith in Christ at
747-1705 anytime Monday through Friday between 8:00
a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

“Everyone in our agency needs to take this training!” This is
a quote I’ve heard many times over the course of the last
several months while teaching Mental Health First Aid. The
response of those completing the course has been
overwhelmingly positive.
Over 150 people in our community have now completed
Mental Health First Aid training. We have trained people in
the school system, clergy, Hospice, those who work with the
disabled, staff from residential care facilities, family
members of those who are battling mental illness, as well
as professionals in the mental health field. Mental Health
First Aid is a course designed to help the average person
know how to recognize the most common mental health
disorders and how to offer help to someone until they can
get professional help.

Zarcone at the Partnership office by emailing

Join the fight against cancer and the movement to
create a world with more birthdays by participating in
the American Cancer Society Relay For Life this year
at Mineral Area College July 20-21. This inspiring
overnight event unites the community in celebrating
those who have had cancer, remembering loved
ones lost and providing an opportunity to fight back against the disease.
Relay For Life supports the Society’s mission to save lives by finding
cures and helping people get well and stay well. All in the community are
invited to enjoy.
The opening ceremony kicks off at 6:00 p.m. on July 20, followed by a

up the track to honor loved ones who have
