PLEASE REMEMBER ST. FRANCIS OF ASSISI PARISH

WHEN PLANNING YOUR ESTATE. Thank you!

Because we have Fr. Shawn, we will be able to maintain the number of Masses we currently have on the weekend. There will be one small change. The 9:30AM at St. Francis will move to 9:15 effective September 9, 2018. This Mass Schedule is, in a sense, unreal. The only reason we are able to maintain it is because of the generosity of Frs. Carey, Kilroy and Milling. It is for this reason that we can only promise to maintain this schedule for short periods of time. We are now taking Mass Intentions from Labor Day through December 31, 2018.

Please express your gratitude whenever you can to the priests who assist us, and pray for vocations.

Pastoral Associate

Mrs. Linda Muldoon

The Solemnity of the Nativity of John the Baptist…I recently read a reflection

that contained the line, “God always puts a John the Baptist in our life.” This gave me pause, and it also made me consider whom I know who leaps for joy for the

Lord, who points out to others the Lamb of God, who refuses to keep silent about “the truth,” who lives life with the humble mantra, “He must increase. I must decrease,” who says “I am not worthy to untie his sandal strap,” who preaches a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins—by words and actions, who turns away from the distractions of our world. My John the Baptist is named Jane. Whom has God placed in your life? Into whose life have YOU been placed by God?

June 24-Feast of John the Baptist: In the Gospel today, we celebrate the birth of John the Baptist and everyone pondered the question: “What, then, will this child be? For surely the hand of the Lord was with him.” This month, “the hand of the Lord has been acting through you” as your gifts, to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul brought his love and care to the poor by allowing us to provide individuals and families with food, personal products, paper goods, and cleaning supplies. Thank You!

Summer Rosary Evenings, led by parishioners, will be

held at 6:45PM on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of July and August. Please join us—by yourself, with a friend, with your family—for a peaceful yet powerful opportunity to pray to and honor the mother of God and her Son. And remember—the church is air-conditioned… Our next gathering is Monday, July 2.

Our bereavement group will resume in the

fall. If you attended this past season and would like the opportunity to comment on the materials we used (“Seasons of Hope”), please call the parish office. If you are grieving the loss of a loved one, we have time and resources for

you—do feel free to contact a member of the clergy at

781.843.1332 or Linda Muldoon ([email protected]).

We came in on a Wednesday morning in the middle of winter to a message left on the answering machine from a former Catechist asking if we had a boy’s First Communion suit in a size 10-12. A friend of the Catechist was in dire straits and needed help. We had just donated all our First Communion attire to a church in Boston. Feeling so terrible that we could not help this young woman, we put off returning the call hoping for a miracle. You see we don’t work on Friday so we decided to wait until the beginning of the next week (and we prayed). When we came in on Monday morning the secretary of the school called us into her office to tell us that a woman came in on Friday to not only donate a beautiful First Communion suit but also a white shirt, tie and shoes (all in pristine condition). We asked the all-important question, “What size is it?” We couldn’t believe it, a size 10. To understand why we consider this a miracle, you have to know that virtually all First Communion donations are made either right after the ceremonies or right before the next year’s ceremonies in the spring. It has never happened that a donation is made in the middle of winter. Never mind that it was a boy’s suit and the right size. The Holy Spirit was doing some serious moving that weekend! We pray that this little boy had a wonderful First Communion Day surrounded by the love of Jesus and his family.

Registration forms went out last week to those who attended the Religious Education Program last year. If you did not receive your forms, please contact us at 781-848-3238 or [email protected]. We will out of the office for vacation from June 22 - July 8.

I praise you, for I am wonderfully made.

God Bless and Stay Close

When the time arrived for Elizabeth to have her child she gave birth to a son. When they came on the eighth day to circumcise the child, they were going to call him Zechariah after his father, but his mother said in reply, "No. He will be called John." -

Graduates 2018 – In the past, many have inquired where our grade 8 graduates will attend high school in the fall. This year our students will be attending the following secondary schools: Archbishop Williams (9), Fontbonne Academy (1), Blue Hills Vocational (5) and Randolph High School (1). We are truly proud of their school choices and wish them the very best and much success!

Summer Program 2018 - Even though summer has begun, the school bells have officially stopped ringing, and the hallways are quiet … but not for long! Though the students have vacated the halls of Saint Francis of Assisi School for the summer months, our school will remain a busy and active place.

Come join us for some summer fun at SFA’s Summer Program, consisting of Arts and Crafts; Theme Days and Projects; Fun and Educational Field Trips; Gym Games and Outdoor Play; and Library and Playground Excursions. From the

Archdiocese of

Boston June 24 ~ Solemnity of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist From his birth, John the Baptist was “a light to the nations” and one who grew strong in God’s spirit. While John knew he was not the messiah, he also knew that his role was to prepare people’s hearts for the coming of Christ. In what ways are you, like John the Baptist, “a light for the nations” leading others to Christ? Who are the people in your life that need to be pointed toward Christ? Transformed in Love Marriage Prep – Transformed in Love for engaged couples is the Archdiocesan program for marriage preparation. For upcoming 2018 dates, locations, and registration information, visit bostoncatholic.org/familylife or contact Liz Cotrupi at [email protected]. The Theological Institute for the New Evangelization and the Secretariat for Evangelization and Discipleship present 5 Things You Should Know – on Wednesday, June 27 from 8:30AM-2:15PM at the Pastoral Center in Braintree. A refresher on six key areas of Church teaching, the program includes Mass, lunch, and an end of day trivia contest on topics covered. Prizes will be awarded! To register, email Denise Daley at [email protected].

Annual Silver and Golden Anniversary Mass – If you are celebrating your 25th or 50th wedding anniversary this year, please join Cardinal Seán O'Malley on Sunday, October 28 at St. Mary Parish in Waltham at 4:00PM for the annual Anniversary Mass with renewal of vows. Sharing the Gospel Naming a baby is a special job. Grown-ups often think long and hard before picking a name for a baby. When John the Baptist was born, his parents knew he was a special gift from God. Their friends were surprised at his name - John - and everyone was curious to know what that special child would grow up to do for God. Prayer Dear God, thank you for babies. Each one is a special gift from God. Something to Draw Draw a picture of yourself holding a baby. Mission for the Week Choose three names you think would be good for a new baby.
