JUNKET STUDIES

Senseless “Aptitude” Test 1 of 7

Ever since standardized tests have been in effect, many people have opposed it for several, valid reasons. Standardized tests are socioeconomically biased, do not exemplify equal opportunity and lack room for a student’s creativity. A great example of this is the SAT which many high school juniors (and seniors) take in order to gain acceptance into college.

Well-known companies such as Kaplan and Princeton Review offer SAT prep classes but not all families can afford to enroll their children in these classes. The classes equip students with test taking skills and provide assistance in math, reading and writing. Furthermore, depending on where a high school is located, a high school may not offer free such classes.

A student who had outstanding grades all throughout high school, wrote a great essay, and participated in several extracurricular activities but did poorly on the SAT would probably be rejected from their dream university and end up attending a 2 year college.
