We need volunteers at St. Camillus to help with Rosary on Mondays

from about 10:30 to 11:30, and some Eucharistic ministers to serve

on some of the units. Anyone interested could come and help a cou-

ple of times to see if they are interested in becoming a volun-

teer. For Rosary on Mondays we need transport help. People might

also help leading the Rosary. An extra Eucharistic minister would

also help at Rosary. Call me for questions/details at 315-468-2283

([email protected]), or call Candace Lawrence, the Pastoral

Care Director at St. Camillus directly at 315-488-2951.

Respect Life

In these difficult years since September 11, 2001 we have been re-

minded that we need one another. The task of eliminating terror-

ism once and for all is a task not only for our military forces, but

also for every one of us. The more we build families and communi-

ties of concrete love, the more we crowd out terrorism. One of the

fascinating phenomena that took place in NYC is how strangers

were spontaneously talking to each other, expressing concern for

one another. This tragedy reminds us that there really are no

strangers, and though it is hard to realize at times, victory is ours.

This we know from our Faith. The power of death has already been

conquered in Jesus Christ. Evil will not have the final work. We will

not live in fear. God will bless America, and the world, which still

belongs to Him.

FORMATION FOR MINISTRY PROGRAM

As the demands of parish ministry increase, we have

the opportunity to look for new models to serve the

faithful in our parishes. With the sponsorship of their

pastor, the Formation for Ministry program provides

the foundation for individuals to prepare to be com-

missioned as lay ministers. Classes are offered in the

regions of the diocese; retreats and workshops are

held in Syracuse.

Specialized ministries include: Pastoral Service, Faith

Formation, Liturgy/RCIA, Youth Ministry and Parish

Business Administration.

If you are interested in this program, please contact

either Father Brian or Deacon Tony.

In a recent issue of America Magazine, Father Matt Malone, S. J.

speaks of his own hearing disability when stricken with a sudden

sensorineural hearing loss,— origin unknown. He speaks of his jour-

ney and how it has taken him seven years to adjust—Father admits

he is still learning. “I know that many people have far more challeng-

ing disabilities than mine, For example, that while people are often

sympathetic toward those who are visually impaired, they can be

quite impatient and even rude with people who are hearing impaired.

People resent having to repeat something because I didn’t hear it, or

they get frustrated because I didn’t hear the punchline of their joke

and now their timing is ruined. Sometimes they just say “forget

about it.”

“Forget about it” is just about the most offensive thing you can say to

someone with hearing loss. If it was important enough to say in the

first place, then say it again.

For the most part, however people are understanding and compas-

sionate. The experience reminds me that I have many people in my

life who love me and care about me. Now in some way I am more in

touch with the world’s pain, with the countless challenges seen and

unseen, that so many people encounter every day.”

When we listen to the stories of people living with disabilities, we all

benefit. Those who are disabled, so often excluded and ignored, are

the source of God’s grace. They are our closest encounter with

Jesus.

Matt Malone, S.J.

ber 17th and 8am on September 18th
