Easter Week Declared of Regional Tourist Interest.Religious brotherhoods in Segovia are responsible, through their efforts and complicity, of conducting a true manifestation of art and religiosity. At the centre of each procession are the “pasos”, an image or set of images set atop a moveable float of wood, which are carried by the “nasarenos” (brothers) themselves. The procession of “pasos” takes place on Holy Thursday and Friday through the steep streets of the historical city. Each “paso” will be brought from different neighborhoods within the city to visit the cathedral and return back to its own church.Board of Guilds of Segovia. www.semanasantasegovia.com

San FrutosOctober 24th and 25th they are devoted to celebrate “San Frutos”, “Santo Ermita” and the patron of Segovia. At 12:00 pm on the 24th, the patron saint “turns the page in book of life” in the eyes of the special devotees. This is the book that holds in its hands the image of “San Frutos” which is on the niche on the door that bears his name at the Cathedral of Segovia. Later the chefs offer a succulent garlic soup typical of the Saint. On the morning of 25, an old XIX Century composition is interpreted in the “Catedral el Villancico a San Frutos” by a choir and small orchestra made up of professional and amateur musicians who every year group together and practice to pay tribute to their patron on this day. Exhibitions of songbirds, mushrooms collected by mycologists and “gigantes y cabezudos” (giant grotesque large-headed figures) roam the streets in parades are all part of the festivies. Most events are centered in the Mayor Square. It is also typical to try the “Cakes of San Frutos” that are made just for this festival.City Hall - Culture. www.segovia.es - Tel. 921 466 706

This landscape houses the largest vulture colony of Spain. The chapel is located at the apex of a suspended sickle over 100 meters on which “San Frutos”, the patron saint of Segovia, protector of birds dwelt. On October 25th pilgrims come to the secluded chapel and carry the saint in procession preceded by the flute and tambourine, accompanied by a large number of dancers. At three in the afternoon people gather to enjoy a great grilled lunch. Another curious rite of the pilgrimage constitutes in “pasar por la piedra del Santo” where one has to crawl a narrow passageway lit by a candle and do so three times around the miraculous rectangle shaped rock placed under the altar.
