INDIANA CATHOLIC CONFERENCE April 2, 2015
Indiana lawmakers’ changes to the state Religious Freedom Restora-tion Act (RFRA) raise several concerns about the protection of reli-gious freedom for Indiana’s citizens and religious institutions.
Defending the dignity of all people means both upholding religious freedom and opposing unjust discrimination. People of faith should not be coerced to violate their conscience in their daily lives.
The Indiana Catholic Conference continues to support Senate Bill 101 and believe it strikes the proper balance that has worked well in the federal RFRA for more than 20 years. While well-intentioned, the changes may undermine religious freedom. What’s the definition or limitation of a “religious function”? Are professionals such as physi-cians included? Does a “non-profit religious organization” include hos-pitals?
We are committed to working in good faith with lawmakers to safe-guard the rights of people of all faiths to practice their religion with-out undue burden from the government and to uphold the God-given dignity of all people of this state.
PLEASE READ THE INSERT IN THIS WEEK’S BULLETIN.
On Monday, May 11 Msgr. Todd, from St. Mark’s Parish, will lead us in a rosary, prayers, and his homilies, followed by Ben-ediction. This is for current Religious Vocations and for an in-crease in Vocations to the Priesthood, Religious Life and happy marriages. And unless you stay around to visit, you can be back home by 8pm. What better way to end your day than being blessed by Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament?

EXTRAORDINARY MINISTERS OF HOLY COMMUNION
Training for Extraordinary Ministers will be offered on the following dates—pick one.
Sunday, May 17th - 6:15pm and Monday, June 1st - 7pm
Training will be led by Patty Cain, with commissioning of new Min-isters to follow. The program should last approximately 1 hour. There are 12 Extraordinary Minister teams that serve at weekend Masses, holiday liturgies, and Holy Days throughout the year. Each team serves weekend Masses on a rotating basis … every 3rd month. You can sign up to serve at the Mass time of your choice.
There are forms that adult Ministers are required to complete pri-or to training. To obtain these forms … to register for training … or for any questions, contact Renee Lange at (317) 885-0226 or email to [email protected].
(Note: “Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion” has been commonly known as “Eucharistic Minister”. Bishops, priests and deacons are the ordinary ministers of the Eucharist and those who assist with the distribution of Communion – whether at mass or to the homebound - are extraordinary ministers.)
At Mass on Saturday May 2, 5PM, we will have a Harp play with Cantors to enhance the Liturgy. The harp has been used many times in the Bible to sing songs unto the Lord. Psalm 150:1-6 Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heavens! Praise him for his mighty deeds; praise him according to his excellent greatness! Praise him with trumpet sound; praise him with lute and harp!
Psalm 33:3 Sing to him a new song; play skillfully on the strings, with loud shouts.
We hope the sounds of the harp will glorify God and sanctify you.

Many thanks to the St. Barnabas teachers and staff who prepared
food for our April outing. The chicken noodle soup, sand-wiches and fresh fruit were enjoyed by many. We ran across several very hungry young men at St. John's. They had not eaten in a while and each had 3 sandwiches and a couple bowls of soup. Thanks also to those who brought the much needed men's jeans and undershorts. After all this rain, many were happy to have clean, dry clothing. We are always in need of men's jeans, especially size 30 to 36 in men's sizes. We could also use some salty snacks. We appreciate all St. Barnabas does to support this ministry for the homeless. Questions about HOOP call Don/Karen Beck-with @ 8810-7057

Question for Children: How do you keep yourself connected to Jesus in your daily life?
Question for Youth: Jesus is the vine – we are the branches, con-nected to Him as our life-source. When do you feel most connect-ed to Jesus in your everyday life? How can you go there more often?
Question for Adults: How does your own connection to Christ, the vine, affect your daily life? What image from this reading helps you see the importance of this connection to Christ?

On his 10th birthday, RICHARD MAZZONI served his very first mass in Louisville, Kentucky. During the Mass, he forgot to open the chalice veil as Sister Gerard Maria had instructed. After Mass, she not only reprimanded him, she suspended him from serving for 30 days! Richard's suspension did not deter him from continuing his serving ministry. On April 17th of this year he celebrated his 70th year as an altar server as well (as his 80th birthday!)
Richard joined St. Barnabas in 1973 after having been transferred to Indianapolis with the Nestle Company. Since joining our parish, he has not only been an altar server at daily mass and on weekends, he has also been a Eucharistic Minister, Mass Coordinator, Lector and takes the Eucharist to the sick every Friday. He was also an ac-tive participant in the Christ Renews His Parish pro-gram and the 40 days for life prayer team. He regularly meets on Friday mornings for Bible study with several men in our parish.
THANK YOU Richard for serving God for over 70 years and Happy Belated 80th Birthday!

We NEED Mass Greeters! We want 2-4 school age kids per Mass, to greet our parishioners upon their arrival. We need stu-dents from pre-K through 8th grade, parish-wide, to volun-teer. It is required that a parent be with the child if the child is 8-9 years old, or 3rd grade or younger. Greeters will need to arrive 20-30 minutes prior to Mass to open doors, welcome, an-swer questions, and provide directions, where to drop off some-thing, directions to the restroom, etc. Monthly schedules to serve as Greeters will be determined after we see the response to this request. We need someone to coordinate and guide this Minis-try. For information or to sign up your child, contact Sharon Spears, 780-8755 or [email protected].
MASS COORDINATORS NEEDED... The Mass Coor-dinator ministry is in need of parishioners to serve in the role of Mass Coordinator at weekend Masses.
We are looking for individuals or teams of spouses/friends to serve in the role. If you are
interested, contact Jeff Biltz at [email protected] or 888-3621.
