Principal’s Message
Advent begins on the fourth Sunday before Christmas. It is a period of simple living and extra prayers as we prepare for the coming of Jesus our Savior. The first coming of Jesus, at Bethlehem, will not happen again. During Advent and Christmas we retell the story of that coming, but it reminds us to prepare for a new coming. In Jesus, God has come among us. He is with us still, and one day when his work is complete, he will gather us into his glory. Until then, we wait, and we prepare.
Jesus calls his followers to make their world loving and peaceful. So we take time during Advent to prepare gifts for others, and we are generous with signs of apology and forgiveness.
This year, Advent began on Sunday, November 27. It is traditional to light the first candle of the Advent Wreath. This candle is purple and is a sign of Hope. The second candle, also purple, is lit the following week, and it is a sign of Love. The pink candle, the sign of Joy, is lit on the third weekend, and finally the last purple candle is lit the fourth weekend, the week prior to the celebration of Christmas, and is a sign of Peace.
Advent ends on Christmas Eve, and the Christmas season begins.
