WHO WE ARE?WHAT IS TAGA?
TAGA stands for the Technical Association of the
Graphic Arts. Established in 1948, TAGA is the
only global professional technical association for
the graphic arts industries. TAGA has the industrys best collection of technical
papers and abstracts, written by some of the 300 world-renowned industry
professionals members of TAGA. TAGA focuses on traditional areas of press,
ink and paper engineering applications but also cutting edge graphic arts
systems, software, and computer technology developments.
Every year, TAGA hosts the TAGA Annual Technical Conference. The TAGAconference is the main destination for the student chapters and individual
industry members as this conference provides industry and student members
the opportunity to learn about the latest technology and research in the
graphic arts industry, through seminars and networking. Over the four days
of this conference will be the judging of the TAGA Student Chapter student
publications as we compete to win the Grand Prize, the Helmut Kipphan Cup
for best overall student technical journal. Visit: taga.org

of students studying the graphic arts discipline throughout universities world-
wide. The objectives for our student group is to stimulate scholarly research
in cutting edge graphic arts systems, software, and computer technologydevelopments as well as traditional areas of press, ink and paper engineering
applications. Most notably, Ryerson has been awarded the Harvey Levenson
Undergraduate Student Paper Award three years in a row. The main
objective for TAGA Student Chapters is to provide students with publishing
opportunities through our student journal publication. With over 100 student
members of RYETAGA, we are all dedicated to focusing our efforts on the
design, planning and production of our technical journal for the competition

WHAT DO WE DO?Journal Production
All Student Chapters of TAGA compete to produce the best overall
technical journal. The journal contains research papers written by
students during their third year Printing Processes course. The best
research papers are then published in the journal. All of the research
tests conducted are supported by equipment donations from the
Canadian printing industry. RYETAGA student members take part in
every aspect of our journal production.
The steps that we take in producing our journal are from concept to
nal product. From the beginning our students research and write all
the technical writing that is the content of our journal. Our students
take their creativity to design an innovative concept for the journal.
Our student members apply what we learn about print and execute
it during journal production. We preight, impose, proof, print, bind,
package and present our journal.
This year in particular, we would like to learn more about FinePix
REAL 3D Technology, as we are incorporating lenticular technology
into our journal. As a result, our members at RYETAGA will gain more
experience and insight in the process of creating our technical journal.
