A VIEW FROM THE PEW
Scripture Reflection on the Second Reading
2 Corinthians 12:7-10
No Excuses
If only I had more money, more time, more assistance, more talent. We all have
a pretty impressive laundry list of why we can’t be of service to God and to
others. Even St. Paul had his “thorn in the flesh,” some private difficulty that
seemed to hold him back from being the apostle he sought to be. Paul kept
praying for its removal so he could be free of this impediment. Finally he reinterpreted the thorn: not
an impediment but an opportunity to let God be God. Maybe it’s time to stop protesting and start
serving!
“My grace is sufficient for you, for power is made perfect in weakness.”
SAINT OF THE WEEK

Memorial of
Kateri Tekakwitha
Home Is Where You Find
Acceptance
Orphaned early and disfigured in a smallpox
epidemic, Kateri (1656-80) may not have imagined
the role she would play in her generation and
beyond.
Becoming a Catholic at the age of 21, she
demonstrated her devotion at the expense of the
goodwill of the extended family that had taken her
in. After enduring derision and cruelty, the “Lily of
the Mohawks” escaped to a mission settlement and
there taught children and cared for the sick and
elderly. She is now regarded as the special patron-
ess of Catholic Native Americans and has united
native peoples across North America.
When the yoke seems heaviest, may we too find
reason to hope in Christ.
“Summertime and the livin’ is easy…”
Rest Up, It’s Sunday
We are all proud of our work ethic — perhaps too proud. We tend to value our work and busyness so much that we forget how to be still enough to hear God’s quiet voice. We need leisure — not frenetic vacationing or compulsive recreational activities, but simple rest when we can unplug and think. Jesus says, “I will give you rest.” We may think he means eternal rest, but we don’t have to wait until we’re dead to enjoy it! Why not today?

Faith Formation Conference at St. Theresa
Catholics flocked to St. Theresa on June 22 and 23 to
refresh, share, and be enlightened.
Parishioner Deanna Rasmussen, who is a Proclaimer
of the Word (Lecotr) at MSOS decided to attend, and
was enlightened meeting other Lectors. For Deanna,
she refreshed by recalling how to meet Jesus every-
where. She gained better insight from becoming a
reader to Lector to true Proclaimer of the Word.
Engaging technology to help evangelize teens was also
shared. Also, parishes that have undergone restored
order of the Sacraments shared what we will be en-
countering next year.
Thank you, Deanna, for your insight. Keep up the
good work.

journey. We are spiritual beings on a
human journey.”
