Michael Aschenbach has been elevated to head golf professional at Whistling Straits. The first assistant golf pro- fessional at both Black- wolf Run and Whis- tling Straits since 2007, Aschenbach played an important role in executing the 2004, 2010 and 2015 PGA Championships and 2007 U.S. Senior Open. He will now direct all golf operations at Whistling Straits in addition to performing lead golf instructor duties at the Kohler Golf Academy. Aschen- bach is also an executive vice chair of the 2020 Ryder Cup. Formerly the sec- ond assistant golf pro- fessional at Whistling Straits, James Font has been promoted to first assistant professional at Blackwolf Run. Before joining the Des- tination Kohler team, he was the head golf professional at The Bull at Pinehurst Farms in Sheboygan Falls, Wis. Font will also serve as an instructor at the Kohler Golf Acad- emy and play a critical role ensuring the team is delivering a five-star experience to all guests. Ed Elsner has been appointed to a newly created position, man- ager of golf events at Destina- tion Kohler. He will oversee the execution of all group golf events and lead public golf group sales. Executive vice chair of scoring services for the 2004, 2010 and 2015 PGA Championships, 2007 U.S. Se- nior Open and 2012 U.S. Women’s Open, Elsner is a certified rules official for USGA and PGA of America winter championship series. Like Aschen- bach, Elsner is an exec- utive vice chair for the 2020 Ryder Cup. “Michael, James and Ed are exceptional communicators and talented PGA profes- sionals ideally suited to take our renowned standards of service to even higher levels,” says Dirk Willis, PGA, Gener- al Manager & Group Director – Golf, Kohler Co. “With the entire Destination Kohler team already focused on ramping up for the 2020 Ryder Cup, our at- tention to detail in all aspects of our golf experience has never been greater.” In addition, Josue Reyes was recently pro- moted from merchan- dising manager to the newly created position of director of retail. Mike Zimmermann was sur-prised at a February boys bas-ketball game with a presenta-tion of the Wisconsin Athletic Service Award. Zimmermann was nominated by Kohler High School Athletic Director Joe Hildebrand for all of the hours of volunteer work he has done for Kohler athletics and his ded-ication to Kohler School. “Zimmy is a guy who sin-cerely cares about Kohler Schools and our community,” said Hildebrand. “I think he

was the first person in my office upon my hiring. He shook my hand and said, ‘Let me know if you need help with anything.’ He has since become a friend and person I lean on for advice or for just a good laugh. Recog-nizing him was the least I could do.” The Wisconsin Athletic Di-rector’s Association recogniz-es individuals from around the state who make a significant contribution to school athletic programs through their service.

Four Kohler athletes sign letters of intent A recognition ceremony was held at Kohler High School on Wednesday, April 11 for four Kohler High School athletes who each signed a letter of in-tent to play at the collegiate lev-el.• Casey Johnson will play ten-

nis for Kalamazoo College, Kalamazoo, Michigan. Johnson won the Division 2 state tennis title the past two years.

• Jack Kohler will play soc-cer for Colegate University,

Hamilton, New York. Kohler was the team’s highest

scorer with 21 goals and 19 assists, leading the boys soc-cer team to an undefeated reg-ular-season record of 25-0-1 and Division 4 state semifinal appearance last fall.

• Jack Kral will join the track and field team at Concordia University, Mequon, Wis-consin. Kral qualified for the WIAA Division 2 State Track and Field Championships last year.

• Russell Toman will join the track and field team at the University of Wisconsin – Whitewater. Toman qualified for the WIAA Division 2 State Track and Field Champion-ships last year.

County PP reconstruc-tion updates to be pre-sented at public meet-ing, May 2 The County PP reconstruction project continues to evolve, ac-cording to Brett Edgerle, Public Works Superintendent for the Village. Members of the Sheboygan County Transportation and Planning & Conservation De-partments, Village of Kohler, and Kohler Co. have coordi-nated with the design engineer to review the comments pro-vided at the November Project Information Meeting (PIM) and make appropriate changes based on some of those com-ments and other design con-siderations. The design is now 100% complete and construc-tion is scheduled to begin the week of May 8, 2018. The significant change made to the plans since November, is the addition of a roundabout at Highland Drive. At the PIM, a number of concerns were brought forward regarding safe-ty at that intersection. Based on those comments and a number of additional factors, the de-sign team reviewed a number of alternatives and eventually chose a roundabout. The design team felt it was the best route forward considering the 30-50 year lifespan of the project.• Roundabouts provide an over-

all safer intersection.• The roundabout is designed

for speeds of 10-15 mph vs. the 25-35 mph or more the ex-isting signal allows on green.

• The roundabout will efficient-ly handle more traffic volume than the originally proposed four-way stop, reducing the average delay at the intersec-tion.

• Roundabouts tend to be more aesthetically pleasing with less pavement and more land-scaping.

• Versus the current configura-tion, where a pedestrian has to cross four lanes of traffic at once, and versus the 30% plan configuration, where a pedes-trian would have to cross three lanes of traffic at once, the roundabout design will allow a pedestrian to only cross one lane of traffic at a time (the current crossing guard will re-main and pedestrian activated warning beacons will be in-stalled as a further safety en-hancement).

• Air pollution is reduced through less idling activity.

Any who would like to review and learn more about the 100% plans and the construction schedule are invited to attend a public information meeting scheduled for May 2, 2018 from 4:30-6:00 p.m. at the Kohler Village Hall, 319 Highland Drive. Representatives from Sheboygan County, the Village of Kohler, Kohler Co. and the design engineer will be in atten-dance to answer any questions.

The professional photographer will be taking pictures from 8:00 until 9:00. All students should plan on arriving by no later then 8:30 p.m. Each student who purchases a ticket for prom will receive one complimentary ticket to be used by their parents or other members of their family to view the crowning ceremony. all parents will be asked to exit by 9:45. Once students arrive at Prom, they will not be allowed to leave and return. Juniors will do clean-up before leaving at the end of the dance.Students who are not attending Prom, serving for Prom, and do not have a family ticket will not be allowed in at Prom. Kohler teacher recognized by Wisconsin Society of Science Teachers Kohler High School science teach-er Dr. Mary Eldridge was recently recog-nized by the Wiscon-sin Society of Science Teachers (WSST) with the Frank Zu-erner New Science Teacher Scholarship. This award is given to a first, second or third year teacher who demonstrates outstand-ing potential for teaching and leadership in Science educa-tion. WSST recognizes teach-ers of science annually for their achievements. Dr. Eldridge has been teach-ing six classes, including AP Biology, Honors Biology, Bi-ology, and Physical Science for Kohler High School since Sep-tember 2017. Dr. Eldridge has a background in research both as a practicing physician as well as in her post doctoral work. Her positive demeanor and ability

to think outside the box translates to a classroom environ-ment that is hands on. Her students in-corporate scientific literacy skills while conducting research on Zebrafish and par-ticipating in a mock

crime scene investigation. All students, of all abilities are em-braced and encouraged to reach their potential. Dr. Eldridge is already an in-tegral part of her school com-munity. She has created and coaches a Science Olympiad Team, and is working to create a HOSA Club and a First Robot-ics Lego Team. Her real life ex-periences make student learning authentic. WSST once again congrat-ulates and thanks Dr. Mary El-dridge for her dedication to sci-ence education in Wisconsin.
