With a conditionWith a condition:

Ruth 3 12-13 And now it is true that I am thy near kins-man: howbeit there is a kinsman nearer than I. Tarry this night, and it shall be in the morning, that if he will perform unto thee the part of a kinsman, well; let him do the kinsman's part: but if he will not do the part of a kinsman to thee, then will I do the part of a kinsman to thee, as the Lord liveth: lie down until the morning.

Ruth went home, and Naomi was happyhappy and confidentconfident at the news she brought.

Ruth 3 18 Then said she, Sit stillSit still, my daughter, until thou know how the matter will fall: for the man will not be in rest, until he have finished the thing this day.

Can you sit stillsit still and waitwait on the Lord? Will you trusttrust in the WisdomWisdom and PowerPower of God?

Do you trust His LoveHis Love for you?Can you sit stillsit still and let God love you?

Page 4: Ruth 4a Able and Willing

I need to be still and let God love me.I need to be still and let God love me.

When this old world starts to push and shove me,I need to be still and let God love me.

4

I need to relax and let God take over.I need to relax and let God take over.

He will take this load off of my shoulders.I need to relax and let God take over.

Page 5: Ruth 4a Able and Willing

When there's trouble all around me,And my soul cries out for rest. When I feel that I am falling,

Even though I've done my best. When decisions get so heavy,

And there are answers that I need.I know it's time to just be still and let God love me.

Ruth 4 1 Then went Boaz up to the gate, and sat him down there: and, behold, the kinsman of whom Boaz spake came by; unto whom he said, Ho, such a one! turn aside, sit down here. And he turned aside, and sat down. 2 And he took ten men of the elders of the city, and said, Sit ye down here. And they sat down.

When there are mattersmatters to be discussed, sometimes we needwe need witnesses to what is said.

Matthew 18 15 Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother. 16 But if he will not hear thee, thenthen take with thee one or two more take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnessestwo or three witnesses every every word may be establishedword may be established. 17 And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it unto the church: but if he neglect to hear the church, let him be unto thee as an heathen man and a publican.

3 And Boaz said unto the kinsman, Naomi, that is come again out of the country of Moab, selleth a parcel of land, which was our brother Elimelech's: 4 And I thought to advertise thee, saying, Buy it before the inhabitants, and before the elders of my people. If thou wilt redeem it, redeem it: but if thou wilt not redeem it, then tell me, that I may know: for there is none to redeem it beside thee; and I am after thee. And he said, I will redeem it.

8

He was ableable to redeem the land.He was willingwilling to redeem the land.

5 Then said Boaz, What day thou buyest the field of the hand of Naomi, thou must buy it also of Ruth the Moabitess, the wife of the dead, to raise up the name of the dead upon his inheritance.

9

But then Boaz explained that when the nearer kins-man redeemed the land, he must also acquire Ruth the Moabitess. Apparently at the death of Elimelech the property had passed to Mahlon, so Mahlon’s widow Ruth was included in the redemption responsibilityredemption responsibility. A son, to whom the property would belong, should be raised up to perpetuate the family name.

6 And the kinsman said, I cannot redeem it for myself, lest I mar mine own inheritance: redeem thou my right to thyself; for I cannot redeem it.

10

He did not want to marry Ruthmarry Ruth and have their firstborn sonfirstborn son as an heir to Mahlon,

Continuing the namename of Mahlon and Elimelech.

It might confuse the inheritanceconfuse the inheritance he would pass down to his other childrenother children.

He would not wantnot want Ruth's son to inherit any of his wealth.

7 Now this was the manner in former time in Israel concerning redeeming and concerning changing, for to confirm all things; a man plucked off his shoe, and gave it to his neighbor: and this was a testimony in Israel.

Seal the deal.

Page 12: Ruth 4a Able and Willing

8 Therefore the kinsman said unto Boaz, Buy it for thee. So he drew off his shoe. 9 And Boaz said unto the elders, and unto all the people, Ye are witnesses this day, that I have bought all that was Elimelech's, and all that was Chilion's and Mahlon's, of the hand of Naomi.

12

The passing of the sandal symbolized Boaz’s right to walk on the land as his property.

10 Moreover Ruth the Moabitess, the wife of Mahlon, have I purchased to be my wife, to raise up the name of the dead upon his inheritance, that the name of the dead be not cut off from among his brethren, and from the gate of his place: ye are witnesses this day.
