THE DALE WARLAND SINGERSFounded ,in 1972, The Dale Warland Singers has become one ofthe world's premier professional choral ensembles. Based in theTwin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul, the chorus has gainedcountless fans from twenty years of concert tours, festival appear-ances, and radio broadcasts, as well as their sixteen cri ticall yacclaimed recordings.

Composed of forty professional singers, The Dale WarlandSingers perform an annual subscription series in the Twin Citiesand tour extensively throughout the Upper Midwest and otherparts of the United States. The ensemble can be heard frequentlyon American Public Radio's St. Paul Sunday Morning as well asrebroadcasts of Garrison Keillor's A Prairie Home Companion. The1990 Dale Warland Singers "Echoes of Christmas" concert wascarried by 177 public radio stations and reached an estimatedseven million listeners.

Regarded as leaders in the performance of twentieth centurychoral music, The Dale Warland Singers was the sole NorthAmerican choir-in-residence at The Second World Symposium onChoral Music in 1990 in Sweden and Finland. The concerts werebroadcast live on Swedish and Finnish radio and television anddistributed by the Symposium for international broadcast in theSoviet Union, North and South America, Asia, and Africa.

Noted for performing a vast repertoire of a cappella music,The Singers inspire audiences with programs ranging from thegreat choral classics to American folk songs and vocal jazz. Witha special focus on the works of living American composers, theensemble is committed to providing increasing opportunities forcomposers and to keeping the choral genre fresh and alive withnew musical ideas. Regular commissioning projects have involvedsuch composers as Dominick Argento, George Shearing, MaryEllen Childs, and Peter Schickele. As one of the first choral ensem-bles to receive a National Endowment for the Arts Composer-in-Residence grant, The Dale Warland Singers recently appointedMinnesota composer Stephen Paulus to serve as composer-in-residence. In addition, with the assistance of the Jerome Foun-dation, the ensemble created a works-in-progress program whichsupports the reading, commissioning, and performance of newworks by emerging composers.

DALE WARLAND, Founder & Music DirectorDale Warland has devoted his professional life to attaining thehighest musical level in choral singing. Under Dr. War land's leader-ship, The Dale Warland Singers have thrilled choral music loversthroughout North America and Europe.

In addition to his active schedule as Music Director of TheSingers, Dr. Warland is in demand as a guest conductor, lecturer,and composer. He has conducted such prestigious groups as theSwedish Radio Choir, Danish Radio Choir, Oregon Bach FestivalChorus, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, and Israel's top professionalchoir, the Cameran Singers. In 1990, Dr. Warland prepared thechorus for performances of Pendereckis Polish Requiem as part ofThe Second World Symposium on Choral Music in Sweden andFinland.

A member of the American Society of Composers, Authors,and Publishers (ASCAP), Dale Warland is a former co-chair ofthe choral and recording panels of the National Endowment forthe Arts. In 1988, he was named Choral Advisor to OxfordUniversity Press, USA. In this capacity, Dr. Warland is assistingwith the expansion of the Oxford American choral list and iscreating a Dale Warland Choral Series. In May 1992, he washonored with a Doctor of Humane Letter from the College ofSioux Falls, South Dakota.

Dr. Warland is a recipient of major grants from the FordFoundation, the Bush Foundation, and the Minnesota State ArtsBoard. He has served as professor of music at Macalester College,and recently received the Distinguished Alumnus Award from St.Olaf College, as well as the Outstanding Alumnus Award fromthe University of Southern California. Dr. Warland's advanceddegrees include a Master's Degree from the University of Minnesotaand a Doctor of Music Arts degree from the University of SouthernCalifornia ..

THE CABARET SINGERSFounded in 1983, The Cabaret Singers has quickly gained a devotedfollowing of jazz enthusiasts. Presenting sophisticated renditionsof swing era ballads and searing jazz selections, the ensemble hasthrilled audiences in every performance. Selected from the 40-member Dale Warland Singers, the 12-member Cabaret Singersrepresent a broad musical spectrum, including voice teachers, bigband soloists, and free-lance musicians. Under the direction ofpianist/conductor Jerry Rubino, The Cabaret Singers has developedits own sound, rich in vocal integrity and virtuosic precision.

JERRY RUBINOJerry Rubino attended the Curtis Institute of Music as a cellistand holds degrees in piano, music education and conducting fromTemple University and the University of Minnesota. An activefree-lance musician, Mr. Rubino serves as organist and choir direc-tor of the Golden Valley United Methodist Church, and oftenperforms in solo and chamber music recitals with the MinnesotaOpera and Minnesota Composers Forum. A published arrangerwith Jenson and Word, he was named in Whos Who in RisingYoung Americans in 1989 and frequently serves as a choral clinicianand adjudicator. Mr. Rubin maintains private voice and pianostudies.
