Rural West is a small, versatile Western Australian company that specialises in the provision of animal health and nutrition products and

services to the livestock industry. We have access to an extremely broad scope of options, not always available through conventional sources of supply.

Rural West supplies and manufactures vitamin and mineral pre-mixes, concentrates, loose licks and feed additives for all types of cattle, sheep, goat, pig, emu and ostrich enterprises. A nutrition consultant customises ruminant rations based on available feed components to make optimum use of either pasture-based or complete feeding systems. We have access to nutritionists who specialise in other areas of animal production. We are happy to refer you to a specialist nutritionist. Veterinarian or agronomist if you require a professional, comprehensive assessment of your farms nutritional needs.

To assist with maximum profit ration formulation, feed analysis is needed for energy, crude protein and dry matter content. Depending on parameters required, Rural West provides analysis through local service providers or ‘Feedtest’.

Natural feed additives are available as an alternative to more traditional production enhancers: yeast (‘Yea-Sacc 1026’strain of Saccharomyces cerevisiae); yucca extract (‘Deoderase’);probiotics (Lactobacillus & Bifidobacteria, ‘Protexin’). ‘Chelated’ trace minerals are readily available.

Rural West will custom mix all required additives into 1 bag. The farmer can then add 1 bag per 1 tonne Final Feed. This will eliminate the need to weigh individual ingredients, which usually results in loss of product from spillage. We will provide each customer with Final feed Ration, and Mixing Sheet, which limits the possibility of incorrect mixing. Every bag is labeled with all Instructions and Safety Directions.

Rural West manufactures electrolytes, custom medications, disinfectants, antiseptics and animal shampoos. A range of detergents is also stocked for hands, laundry and kitchen use.

Health products and equipment for large animal management are a specialty, hoof care, animal restraint, animal identification, dehorning equipment, castrators, obstetrical aids, trace mineral bullets, internal & external parasite control programs & products, vaccination programs, vaccines & vaccinators, syringes & needles, injectable vitamins & tonics.

An extensive range of small animal products is stocked including internal & external parasite controls, The ‘K9 Kare’ range of flea rinses, shampoos and grooming products are an example of canine products manufactured by Rural west. We also have most popular brands of small animal treatments including, Frontline, Advantage, Proheart, Heartgard, Drontal, Repel X, Flyaway, Septicide, Calcium Sandoz, Elastoplast etc.

Nutritional Stock Lick This loose lick is designed for Sheep, Cattle or Goats. It is in a loose granular form, rather than a Lick Block. This Lick is designed to provide Vitamins, Minerals, and Trace elements, required by ruminants, especially when grazing on dry paddock feed or crop stubbles. You will notice this lick contains some protein and energy sources. However, this lick is not designed to provide protein and energy. These ingredients (Soya meal, Molasses powder, Vegetable oil) are included to increase palatability, which helps to make this lick more attractive to the stock. Because signifi-cant levels of phosphorous are provided in Cereal Grains, Hay, and Stubbles, this lick designed to be used concur-rently with Cereal Grains and/or Cereal Hay. Should be made available to all animals in a trough, or ½ 44 gallon drum, or tractor tyre. Ideally, place lick in the vicinity of water trough, so animals can access lick before or after drinking each day. Make Lick available on an “add lib” basis. Lick has been designed so that Beef Cows will lick approximately 100 to 130 grams/head/day, Merino Ewes approximately 25 to 35 grams/head/day. Make available at the start of the dry feed season. If this lick is not provided until stock have been on dry feed for many weeks, ani-mals will eat much more than above doses, for the 1st week or so. They will then settle back to these approximate doses.

All ingredients used in Rural West Premixes, Concentrates, and Licks, are purchased on Quality. Price is secondary consideration. We demand Specification Sheets, and Certificates of Analysis, on all raw materials used. We prefer to use U.S.P., or Food Grade (in preference to Fertiliser Grade) ingredients.

Ingredients used ;

Dicalcium Phosphate: D.C.P. - conforms to E.E.C. Standards – contains 19% Phosphorous and 24% Calcium. High level of Bioavailability. Note: Phosphorous also provided by Cereal Grains, Hay, Silage + Stubbles. Calcium + Phosphorous should be in balance in Total Diet.

Gypsum: Calcium Sulphate – Highest level of Calcium Sulphate available, i.e. low level of impurities. Source of calcium and sulphur (most important if Urea is included).

Ground Limestone: Calcium Carbonate – Highest level of Calcium Carbonate available, i.e. lowest level of impuri-ties. One of 3 different sources of Calcium contained in this Concentrate.

Salt: Sodium Chloride - Butchers Salt, or if preferred, Fine Salt. Source of Sodium. Aids palatability. Clients with high Salt content in drinking water, may request reduced levels of Salt.

Biotin: Vitamin H – deficiencies can cause Hoof, Hair (and Skin) and Horn abnormalities.

WO85 Ruminant Vitamin & Mineral Premix: made exclusively by Rural West for West. Australian conditions. “Spec Sheet” available on request. Contains Vitamins A, D3, + E. Micro Minerals – copper, cobalt, selenium, mag-nesium, manganese, iron, iodine, zinc.

Palabind: Dried Molasses – Increases palatability. Energy source.

Canola Meal: source of bypass protein. Increases palatability.

Vegetable Oil: for dust suppression, limits separation of ingredients, and adds energy.

Deodorase: Yucca extract, promotes nitrogen retention & reduces ammonia content in manure. Note: optional component.

Urea: source of non-protein nitrogen for ruminal protein synthesis. -Note – this is an optional component. Urea is most useful when animals are grazing high roughage diets (e.g. Cereal Crop stubbles). Care must be taken with any feed supplement containing Urea. Do not allow Feed containing Urea to get wet, especially if the water forms puddles in feed. Urea is very soluble and very toxic if stock have access to dissolved Urea.

Protein = 4.63 % Cobalt = 19.23 mg/kg ME Ruminant = 3.875 MJ/kg Copper = 721.15 mg/kg Calcium = 13.55 % Ferrous Iron = 1057 mg/kg Phosphorous = 1.81 % Iodine = 21.15 mg/kg Sulphur = 4.00 % Selenium = 12.42 mg/kg Potassium = 2213 mg/kg Magnesium = 2403.85 mg/kg Vitamin A = 240,384 IU/kg Manganese = 423.08 mg/kg Vitamin D3 = 48,076 IU/kg Zinc = 2115.38 mg/kg Vitamin E = 864.55 mg/kg Biotin = 5.05 mg/kg

Cattle/Sheep/Lamb Feedlot

Rural West Premixes and Concentrates are manufactured from the highest quality ingredients. Specification Sheets and Certificates of Analysis are demanded for all raw materials. U.S.P., or Food Grade, ingredients are preferred to Fertiliser Grade. The chemical analyses of all products are guaranteed.

Ingredients used:

Dicalcium Phosphate – D.C.P. contains 19% phosphorous and 25% calcium. Low temperature processing ensures the highest level of bio-availability.

Gypsum – Calcium Sulphate – Source of calcium and sulphur (important if urea is used as a source of non-protein nitrogen).

Stonedust – Calcium Carbonate – highest level of purity available. One of three sources of calcium used to balance calcium, phosphorus and sulphur levels.

Salt – Butchers Salt or, if preferred, Fine Salt. Source of Sodium. Helps maintain feed and water intake and activity of ionophores. May be reduced if stock water is saline (TDS > 3000ppm)

Urea – source of non-protein nitrogen for ruminal protein synthesis. Optional inclusion. Note – this is an optional component

Rumensin (Monensin) or Bovatec (Lasalocid Sodium) - Rumen modifiers are to improve feedlot efficiency, aids Coccidiosis and Acidosis prevention. Available as standard component in cattle feedlot mixes at no extra cost

Tylan - Antibiotic aids in prevention of liver abscess, and improvement in rumen digestion. Note – this is an optional component in cattle mixes only.

WO85 Ruminant Vit + Min. Premix – formulated exclusively by Rural West for West. Australian conditions. Contains Vitamins A, D3, + E & trace minerals – copper, cobalt, selenium, magnesium, manganese, iron, io-dine, zinc (specifications available on request).

Vegetable Oil – to suppress dust, limit separation of ingredients and add energy.

Sodium Bicarbonate – a ‘buffer’ or pH stabilizer. Aids in prevention of acidosis, laminitis, liver abscess. So-dium Bentonite can be substituted if preferred.

Antibiotics – alternative methods of acidosis prevention. Antibiotics are not included in standard Feedlot Concentrate, but are available as an option, or supplied separately for addition to the ration as required. Note – these are an optional component. Jan 2004: Now S4, Vet Script required!

Note – an extra 20 kg / tonne Sodium Bicarb. or 2 kg / tonne Virginiamycin 20 (Eskalin 20) is recommended to be added to the diet during the first 2 to 3 weeks of introduction to grain. In addition, the introductory ration should undergo a gradual transition from high roughage to finisher ration, ideally over a 3 week period.

Deodorase – (Alltech) Yucca extract – promotes nitrogen retention + reduces ammonia content in the manure. Note – this is an optional component.

Yea – sacc – (Alltech). Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Live Yeast Culture. Stimulates ruminal micro-organisms for improved feed utilization. A natural alternative to antibiotics for control of lactic acidosis. Note – this is an optional component.
