• Poverty is the nonexistence of food, shelter,
money and clothing that occurs when people
cannot satisfy their basic needs.
• Poverty can be understood simply as a lack of
money, or more broadly in terms of barriers
to everyday life

Polak was born in the Czech Republic and raised in Canada.
At twelve year old he learn that he could make five cents a
quart picking strawberries, this inspired him and his friends
entrepreneurial spirit. Together they started a strawberry farm
that earn them seven hundred dollars for two summers’ work.
Before establishing IDE, Paul practiced psychiatry for 23 years
in Colorado.

• Has worked with thousands of farmers in countries around the world—including; Bangladesh, India, Cambodia, Ethiopia, Myanmar, Nepal, Vietnam, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
• This moved 17 million people out of poverty.
• IDE has ended poverty for 19 million of the world’s poorest people by making radically affordable irrigation technology available to farmers.
• He aims to create a design revolution by enlisting the
best designers in the world.
• To develop products and ideas that will benefit the
90% of the people on earth who are poor.

• He wants to build local restaurants for people in
poverty
• He wants to use low cost oil expellers to produce a
locally branded form of canola oil for local health food
store.
