SET UP

Lay the 4 coloured room cards vertically to the left of the table. Lay the 4 white stage cards horizontally at the top of the table (see below). Essentially, you have created a grid - 4 rooms, with 3 stages and a Specialist Prep Area in each room.

Deal each player a number of (white) skill cards, referring to the table below. For a quick game (20 minutes), choose the ‘easy’ option. If you want a challenge, go for the hard option.

OBJECT OF THE GAME

Hostiple is a tabletop card game for 2-6 players. Cure patients and receive gold star tokens from the minister of health. Be warned, if you happen to kill a patient, the minister will take those tokens back! The winner is the first player to have 10 tokens.

GAMEPLAY New patients are added to thetable at the start of each round.

The first player each round is called ‘The Consultant’. Determine which player starts by debating who would make the best doctor in real life. The person least likely starts.

The first player lays as many skill cards as they wish in order to try and cure patients. Attempting to cure a patient consists of laying skill cards and rolling dice. If the correct score is not rolled, the patient dies. Whether they are cured or killed, that patient is removed from the board. Once the player has played all the cards they wish, play moves on to the next player and so on.

Once all players have had a turn, determine if any outstanding patients on the board will die (see page 4). Then move all patients to the next stage of treatment.

For a full run-down of the round order, see back of manual.

PATIENTS

There are 3 types of patient - Standard, Emergency and Specialist. They all share similar traits. Below are details for a standard patient.

Emergency patients and Specialist Cases have the same traits but their own rules (see page 8).

MOVNG PATIENTS

At the start of each round, draw new patients from the (black) patient deck and add them into their corresponding rooms in stage one. The number you add is DOUBLE the amount of people playing.

Example In this game there are 3 players. So 6 cards are drawn from the patient deck. 2 are for the Pharmacy, 2 for the Operating Theatre, 1 for the Clinic and 1 for Casualty.

At the end of each round. Any patients still on the board are moved to the next stage of treatment. So all patients in stage 1 move to stage 2. Stage 2 patients move to stage 3 etc. Stage 1 should then be clear for new patients to be added at the start of the next round. Patients move from stage to stage as each rounds progresses. Players need to cure patients before they reach stage 3. If a patient remains in stage 3 by the end of the round, the patient dies.

If a patient dies, ALL players LOSE 1 gold star token

Illness Name

Room Treated InWhen the patient is drawn, place the card in stage one of the designated room.

Skill TypeThis is indicates what type of treatment the patient requires (Surgery, Psychi-atry or Bedside Manner). Skill cards of the correct type must be used (see page 6)

WARNING! If the player fails to score the required value the patient dies. Whether a patient is cured or dies, the patient card is removed from the table.

GOLD STAR TOKENS

For every patient you successfully cure, you receive one gold star token for your fine work.

However, if you fail your cure roll and the patient dies, you will lose one gold star token.

If a standard patient has not been cured by the end of stage 3, the patient dies and all players lose a token.

Emergency patients and Specialist Cases have their own rules (see page 8)

INSTANT CURES

An Instant cure is every doctor’s dream. These really are as good as they sound. Each card has a choice of 3 illnesses which can be cured instantly without having to roll any dice.

MAKING CURE ROLLS

Each patient has a symbol and a number to represent how to cure them. The symbols dictate the correct skill required

To cure a patient you need to lay at least one skill card with the corresponding symbol on. You can lay more than one card to improve your odds of making the treatment successful. Each card grants you one die to roll. The score you need to roll is equal or greater than the patient’s cure value.

Example To cure Sleep Walking, a player needs to lay at least one Bedside Manner skill card and roll a 4 or more.

The player chooses to lay 2 bedside manner cards and can therefore roll 2 dice. They roll a 3 and a 2, so they have exceeded the 4 required and the patient is cured.

Example The players have collectively stored 6 psychiatry skill cards for the clinic. A specialist case of Tardis Syndrome is in stage 3 and requires a roll of 12 to cure. The players agree to use 4 cards and therefore roll 4 dice to cure the patient.

SPECIALIST SCORING

When a Specialist patient is cured ALL players receive 2 gold star tokens.

When a Specialist patient is killed ALL players LOSE 2 gold star tokens.

EMERGENCY PATIENTS

These troublesome patients require treatment within stage 1 only. If they are not cured during the first round that they appear, they will die and ALL players will lose 1 gold star token.

SPECIALIST CASES

These are insanely difficult to cure patients that require all players working together. As such, they have special rules and do not follow the same cure rules as standard and emergency patients.

Speciality cases cannot be cured during player’s turns. They always advance along each stage to stage 3. During their turns players can lay skill cards to the right of stage 3 for any room in the Specialist Prep Area. Think of this as preparing for potential cases.

At the end of the player’s turns, if there is a Specialist case in stage 3 of treatment, the players must decide between them how many reserved cards to use for that Specialist patient. Dice are rolled in the usual way and the cards used are removed.
