PROJECT MANAGER
the big boss of the project. They will be in charge from everything from arranging trans-
port to marketing and everything in between. With two directors on board we felt weneeded to have one person who would know exactly what was going on and was able
to kick everyone into gear if need be.
The directors will ensure that the Project Manager is brought up to speed with details al-
ready confirmed on appointment. Venue and performance rights have already been
secured so the project manager won‟t have to worry about this.
DIRECTORS x2
As originators of the project, these roles have already been assigned to Eve Nicol and
Lee Anderson. The directors are responsible for their individual productions and their indi-
vidual cast members. They are answerable to the Project Manager.
TECHNICAL AISSISTANTS x 2
These people will be allocated to one production each. They are responsible for locating
and building props, costume and set. In Edinburgh, they will be required for the get-in
and out of each performance and will work closely with the Project Manager and Direc-
tors.
PERFORMERS x 11
„The Talented Mr Ripley‟ requires five male and two female performers. „Shakers‟ requires four female performers.
Both the plays require performers to take on multiple characters.
All sixteen members of the team will be expected to pound the pavements in Edinburgh
handing out flyers and will have to contribute £300 to the project (see next page for de-
tails).
HOW TO GET INVOLVED
Everyone who wishes to be considered for ANY of the roles in the production team should
attend one of the audition dates.
Please attend EITHER
Thursday 22nd April OR Friday 23rd AprilBOTH evenings start at 6.30PM in the HUMSS JCR on the 2nd floor, Whiteknights Campus.
If you cannot attend at these times please contact [email protected]
All attendees will be required to fill out a form (which can be found at the end of this
document) and we will discuss the project with everyone. If you do not wish to audition
for a performing role, you can leave once you have submitted your form and heard from
the directors.
During performance auditions you will be expected to take part in some fun, simple ac-
tivities. You do not need to prepare anything before hand. Samples of audition pieces

The entire project is coming in at around £8,000. The biggest costs come from
Performance rights Entry to the Fringe programme Venue hire
Accommodation Travel
To help us towards these costs, we are asking the sixteen members of the production
team who will be coming to Edinburgh to each contribute £300.
We appreciate that this is quite a sum and we‟ve brought it down as low as possible. Theprice works out as covering each individual‟s accommodation and transport for the twoweeks.
On receipt of a £50 deposit by mid-March (date tbc), payment agreements will be ne-gotiated on an individual basis. Once this plan has been set, individuals will be expected
to honour the agreement
Project team members will also be expected to help RUDS fundraise for the project dur-
ing the Summer Term.
All other costs such as transport to and from Reading during the rehearsal period and liv-
ing costs when in Edinburgh will be covered by the individual. So make sure you‟ve gotmoney enough to enjoyed yourself in Edinburgh for two weeks
Cost
Return transport from Reading to Edinburgh will be arranged on your behalf.
Getting to Edinburgh takes between 6-9 hrs depending on if we travel by road or rail.
We will be traveling in relative comfort, either by train, our cars or rented mini bus.

Accommodation
15 nights of self-catered accommodation within walking distance of the venue will be
arranged on your behalf.
With sixteen people, space might get quite tight but with all the exciting things happen-ing in Edinburgh, we doubt you will spend much time in the apartment other than to get
some shut eye.
All your meals and day-to-day living costs will be your responsibility.

The Productions
We are performing in Space 2 of the Mile @ The Radisson
We chose this space because of its excellent location and support. It is also a popular venue with other university drama societies and we thought it would be good to meet
some of our peers.
It is a simple 4mx4m, 55-seat black box style performance space. You can see a plan at
http://production.thespaceuk.com/venuespecs/VenueSummary2010.pdf#page=8
Why this venue? The Spaces on the Mile @ The
Radisson has been a fringe
venue since 2002. It really does
have the best location you can
imagine for a fringe venue, situ-
ated right in the middle of it all
on the Royal Mile and where
the fringe is at its busiest. Its lo-
cation is also a few hundred
yards from Waverley Station
and moments from the Fringe
box office. It's also usefully situ-
ated close to the street theatre
stages where thousands of
fringe visitors gather every day. From http://
www.thespaceuk.com/
To maximise the number of people we can take to Edinburgh, we decided to put on two
individual productions. These are
THE TALENTED MR RIPLEY
andSHAKERS
The comination of these two plays allowed us to take an even number of male to female
performers. Both plays use fluid space and would adapt well to an intimate performance
space. The two plays require the casts to multirole, offering challenging ensemble based
work.
Each play will be approximately 45-50mins in length.
The following pages outline the plays and characters.

prodigal son of the Greenleaf fortune. But Tom isn‟t the old school friend Rickie believeshim to be.
His interest in Rickie and his playboy lifestyle grows deeper as Tom‟s jealousy grows. SoonRickie‟s fiancée, lifestyle, friends and even Rickie himself aren‟t up to Tom‟s exacting stan-dards. A dangerous anger rises in Tom as he continues to deceive all around him.

boyfriend, Steven. But she has a secret: At 16, she had a ro-

tionship was over. After working for a year in a Chinese restau-
rant, Adele found work at Shakers.
Carol, 22, F Ambitious; Independent; Opinionated. Carol pursued Univer-
sity, earning a degree in Sociology at Lancaster. After having
her heart broken there, she decides to abstain from the boy-
friend game. Turned away from the best jobs for being 'under-

Nanny. She found work a year later at Shakers, a job she is be-
grudgingly 'over-qualified' for.
Mel, 21, F Realistic; Stoic; Hardworking. Mel pulled pints in the The Red
Lion, before moving up in the world and getting work in Shak-
ers. Mel supports her Mum after Dad died one year ago. She

Nicki, 21 F Confident; Flirtatious; Performer. Nicki comes from working-
class roots, but dreams of becoming an actress. she Nicki strug-
gles to balance work with Auditions, and spends her Sunday
nights performing songs in Clubs. Not a big reader and no fan
of Shakespeare, Nicki's desire to act comes from her sup-
pressed need to engage emotionally.
Welcome to SHAKERS, a cocktail bar in the thriving city of London. Four waitresses, Adele,
Carol, Mel and Nicky, flirt and flounce their way through tough evenings of seedy blokes
and expensive drinks, while fantasising of a way out…
Their tales take us on a journey through life‟s doldrums, in poetry, mime, multi -role and
physical performance.
