What a wonderful first week back…. and we are already chomping at the bit to get stuck into this week too! The students were absolutey amazing, so pleased to see each other, willing to engage, focused on learning and genuinely a pleasure to teach. It really was Weber School at its finest It is certainly a very busy place in our junior room but already Mrs Blyth and Mrs Tolley are working out when they can teach together and where they work seperately. The middle room, with Mrs Phelps and Mrs Lewis (Mon-Thu) and Mrs Satchwell is focusing on routines and has a new class pet, STAR who is helping them to make great choices. Our seniors have made a phenomenal start, and their attitude and willingness to work together bodes well for a positive working team… that also has a fair few smiles while doing so. On Fridays we have very ‘streamlined’ staffing with only Mrs Thompson, Mrs Tolley, Mrs Satchwell and Ms Holyoake onsite. This means there is no one in the office. We endevour to check the phone before 3pm but please if you can leave any messages before lunch at 1pm it would be appreciated. We are very excited about the year ahead with our focus being: Structured Literacy – finalising assessments and groupings so we can begin, fingers crossed, as early as next week with guided reading groups. PB4L – explicitly teaching our expectations for behaviour, based on our school STAR values of Striving for success, team player, active learner and respectful. Classrooms and environments – welcoming student centred classrooms where children are invited into the learning and feel supported. Attendance Following on from 2020, this year the school and BOT focus is on attendance. We want your children to attend and we plan for them to be here. 2018

Good morning…Morena….Hello!

What a wonderful first week back…. and we are already chomping at the bit to get

stuck into this week too! The students were absolutey amazing, so pleased to see

each other, willing to engage, focused on learning and genuinely a pleasure to

teach. It really was Weber School at its finest ☺

It is certainly a very busy place in our

junior room but already Mrs Blyth and

Mrs Tolley are working out when they

can teach together and where they

work seperately. The middle room, with

Mrs Phelps and Mrs Lewis (Mon-Thu) and

Mrs Satchwell is focusing on routines and

has a new class pet, STAR who is helping

them to make great choices. Our

seniors have made a phenomenal start,

and their attitude and willingness to

work together bodes well for a positive

working team… that also has a fair few

smiles while doing so. On Fridays we

have very ‘streamlined’ staffing with only Mrs Thompson, Mrs Tolley, Mrs Satchwell and

Ms Holyoake onsite. This means there is no one in the office. We endevour to check

the phone before 3pm but please if you can leave any messages before lunch at

1pm it would be appreciated.

We are very excited about the year ahead with our focus

being:

• Structured Literacy – finalising assessments and groupings so

we can begin, fingers crossed, as early as next week with

guided reading groups.

• PB4L – explicitly teaching our expectations for behaviour,

based on our school STAR values of Striving for success, team

player, active learner and respectful.

• Classrooms and environments – welcoming student centred

classrooms where children are invited into the learning and

feel supported.

Attendance

Following on from 2020, this year the school and BOT focus is on attendance.

We want your children to attend and we plan for them to be here. Absences

are disruptive to their learning and their social relationships. As such, we look

forward to working with you to bring our attendance up.

The ‘bits and bobs’…

• School leaders – we are looking at how we organise our leaders and their

roles. No decisions until week four but we are very proudly watching those

who have applied for positions to see their leadership potential and effort.

• Library/Kapa Haka – will start Friday of week four. At this stage just year 4+,

with a possible review once we are underway.

• Egg – please be aware that we have a child with an egg allergy at school

so please do not send hardboiled eggs and egg sandwiches.

• Pool – final pump installation was completed on Friday and the filling of

the pool is underway! Once full we do need to learn how to use the new

sysytem, and some final concreting/door replacements. Main thing is…

we can hopefully get into the pool asap. As soon as we know… will let you

know!

• Buses – please contact the school with any changes to the buses. The

Motea bus is still very full so please check in before assuming any extras

can fit on.

• School photos…. some good news last week! It is hopeful that a solution

has been found and the machinery is up and running middle of this

month. Will keep you posted.

• Lunches – please send water only in drink bottles. We endevour to check

every lunchbox (years 1-5) each day

• Uniform – please send your child in the correct uniform. School shorts, shirts

and jerseys along with black shoes/sandals and black socks. Spot checks

which give extra house points will be implemented ☺

• Stationery – please can all children bring their stationery asap. If you are

awaiting its arrival, please pop a note to your child’s teacher so they do

not contact you 😊 We do have some supplies at school if you need.

THANK YOU!!!

Our new playground sponsorship acknowledgement is in place, and

as you can see, how special it is! On a Totara stump from Wimbledon

is recognition of all those who contributed towards the community

playground. Thank you to Elle and Simon Joblin, Heather Newland

and Brian Hales for their hard work getting this ready.

Weetbix Tryathlon

The annual Weetbix try-athlon will be held on Tuesday 23rd March. This is not a school event,

and it is up to parents to organise if they would like their child to participate. It is counted as a

justified absence.

WEBER SCHOOL FUNDRAISING This year we've got an exciting fundraising challenge to tackle and we'd love your help. We've got some great ideas and concepts to raise the funds needed to extend our extra teacher in the junior room as well as achieving our annual fundraising target to keep our human resources across the whole school strong. It will be about bringing the community and local businesses along on the ride with us this year and in years to come and we'd love your help to engage as many people willing to give both product, goods and services to make this a reality.

We're also keen to hear of any ideas or opportunities there are out there for fundraising in 2021 and beyond! Anyone interested helping out, at any level and with no pressure or expectation, we invite you to come and chat with us and share ideas on Thursday 11th of Feb at the School library at 3pm.
