NATIONAL LISTERIOSIS RESPONSE PLAN
Objectives supporting the overall goal of the response
1 Strengthen Multi-sector Coordination, under one structure, working as one team
2Strengthen Listeriosis surveillance to ensure timely detection and response to clusters
and outbreaks
3Strengthen lab capacity to support food and environmental testing, including
enumeration of the levels in food
4Strengthen food safety monitoring programs in food production facilities and monitor
the recall of implicated foodstuffs
5Review and enhance existing legislation relating to food safety, enforcement and
outbreak response
6To continuously inform stakeholders and public in an accurate, timely, consistent,
transparent and comprehensive way on the response to Listeriosis outbreak in SA.

How provinces can help?
![Page 11: RSA/WHO - IMT...staffing, database etc NHLS food lab: testing of facility samples s Information (sequencing): sequencing of all isolates Phase 2 ... •Be aware of the ERP –distribute](https://reader034.vdocuments.us/reader034/viewer/2022042416/5f312d5c9007b636363e20cb/html5/thumbnails/11.jpg)
How provinces can help?
• Be aware of the ERP – distribute the 2-pager summary in your department, esp with your media liaison officers
• Work with the IMT in the following areas
– Epi and Surveillance – case notifications, activate your provincial ORT, share activities with the IMT (reports)
– Risk Management/Communications – continue with activities, address misunderstandings, promote food safety, share activities with IMT
– Environmental health, DAFF/VPH – participate in training, work with districts, participate in inspections, follow up inspections, share activities with IMT
