Talk on “D.G. Shipping Rules for Conducting Examination for Shipping Crew”
25.11.2019
A technical guest lecture meeting was held on 25th November 2019 at 6.00
pm in IE(I), Tamilnadu State Centre auditorium. The topic of the day was “D.G.
Shipping Rules for Conducting Examination for Shipping Crew”. Er S Kannan,
Committee member of Marine Division, IEI TNSC was the chief guest for the day.
There is more than 15 D.G shipping approved Marine Institutes conducting
training for General Purpose ratings in southern region who will join as Deck crew
or Engine crew on board merchant ships. The training period is for 6 months. After
end of the training D.G Shipping conducts Practical, Oral and online Examination
through Board of Examination for Sea farers Trust (BES). The Examiners are those
sailed as Chief Engineers and Captains on board ships. Er.S.Kannan, Marine
Engineer, Committee Member of TNSC is the BES coordinator to conduct the
examination for southern region. He explained the procedure to conduct the examination as per the rules and regulations of D.G Shipping and following the
guidelines of BES. He informed the Examiners the method of assessment and awarding marks in the format given for Practical, Oral and online Examination
for two subjects General Shipping Knowledge (GSK) by the Captains and Marine Engineering Knowledge (MEK) by the Chief Engineers. The Examiners
were asked to assess and give a report on the condition of Equipment, facilities for conducting the examination and Safety and Hygiene aspects. The questions
and quires by the participants were clarified by the speaker. And the meeting ended with the vote of thanks.
Report on Energy Conservation Day
The Energy Conservation day was celebrated at the Institution of Engineers
(India), Tamilnadu State Centre on 20th December 2019 at 6.00 pm in IE
(I),Tamilnadu State Centre auditorium.
Er P R Seshadri, FIE Past Chairman of IE(I), TNSC welcomed the
gathering.
The guest lecture was started by Er P Gomathi Nayagam, Honorary
Secretary, IEI TNSC on the theme “Energy Efficient Collective Farming
Techniques & Models for Engineers”.
Agricultural Engineer started with fundamentals of Energy, energy is strength
or vitality required to sustain physical or mental activity. And energy is property
of matter and radiation which manifest as capacity to perform work. Energy can
be neither created or destroyed but changed one formed to another from. Energy
exits in many different forms. Question of energy conservation or energy efficient
why comes, We don't know how to tap energy within in us and in our environment,
as energy is not readily available or in unavailable forms. Energy conservation
or Energy efficient etc., normally we, engineers used to think Mechanical energy,
Grid power, Solar energy, Wind energy, Hydel source, Atomic Energy etc. We are
not thinking energy available within us, as we are made of the 5 elements Earth,
Water, Fire, Air, Space. As an Engineer, each one has to think, whether I am
independently energy efficient, what amount of energy I consume, what amount
of energy produce, whether we are energy neutral or not? Here the speaker
encouraged the participants to take entirely different paradigm of energy
conservation, energy efficient methods.
By creating such aenergy environment in the hall, he asked the participants
whether scale of economy (western) models which we are adopting in the name
of energy efficient, cost effective, is good or bad to India, where we have 129 Agro
Climatic Zones. Such models are being mainly built on money power and
technology which are not taking consideration of people uniqueness, unknown
effects . Over a period, this models will create monopoly and individuals, MSME
will become digital colony of big corporate . Can any system or anything can be
eternally energy efficient? Self-sustainable at all times? Is it possible or not?
Consultant Agricultural Engineer explained any living being is unique one, each
20.12.2019living being is able to find out his uniqueness, eternally energy efficient system
is possible. When any individual try to express his uniqueness, it becomes, natural,
effortless, seamless, efficient, spontaneous, free.
The agricultural engineer explained his independent research for 12 years
on this subject, when one is able to find out uniqueness, in that particular
uniqueness, no one can match him, he can make competition irrelevant and eternal
energy efficient is possible. He explained ancient systems are based on these
uniqueness models and now everyone is connected with everyone always, still we
feel insecure, inefficient, because we forget our uniqueness. The speaker gently
took the participants that, In Australia and some other countries, 1000 acre will
be managed by just 10 people. Here in India 1000 acre will be managed by 1000
farmers or more. Every year because of hereditary ownership divide, small farmers
are increasing every day. Large machineries etc., cannot be operated in small land
holdings. We have to find out India Specific solutions. If we are able to merge
Uniqueness and Oneness, we can able to create many energy efficient unique
business models to consumers. The consumers are looking for different kind of
experiences . From lab to land itself a Engineer/ Retired engineer / any qualified
engineer can help many farmers by sitting his office through the technology . The
technology, experience etc., can be transferred to Indian Farmer, where he knows
“on & off” switch only to speak. Still many farmers does not know how to read
or send SMS or other smart phone features.
From farm planning, budgeting, crop choice, variety, market oriented
production planning, land preparation, planting, crop development, crop protection,
harvesting, post harvesting, supply chain management, primary processing,
processing, packing, etc., simply farm to fork, because of diversity of people, area,
climate, soil, water etc., our farming efficiency is very low. Here forcing, coming
up with western models of scale of economy & efficient models will not work.
Models based on Uniqueness with infusion of technology can work. Where each
engineer being a Mining Engineer, Mechanical Engineer, Chemical Engineer or
any Engineer can create Win Win for all energy efficient solutions to farming
community. Speaker explained about various models based land based, crop based,
equipment based, product based and concept based, product based, category based
and other innovative energy efficient collective farming models.
The Consultant Engineer also touched upon the 5x 5 fold expansion,
Panchamukha Pentagon Artificial Intelligence energy efficient strategy, where
energy efficiency of system can be measured in more scientific way, which is
integrated and simultaneous function of 5 things 1. Field of action, 2. people, 3.
equipments, 4. maximum from minimum efforts and 5. X factor. The Agricultural
Engineer dedicated the presentation to the multidiscipline engineering organization,
IEI, there are different fields of study in agriculture, that is study of living things,
Many discipline of Engineering, that is study of nonliving things. Agricultural
Engineering is merger of both. Multidisciplinary approach, the relevant of IEI,
learning from other disciplines, are very important in present scenario. He predicted
that this generation will find out, theory of everything, the Universal Filed theory,
which will show the way for eternally self-sufficient and energy efficient system.
The programme ended with Vote of Thanks.
