1. INTRODUCTION

During the period 20/01/85 to 03/02/85, a ground magnetometer

survey was performed over a group of sixty claims within

Benton and Mallard Townships in Northern Ontario.

2. LOCATION AND ACCESS

The sixty claims covered by this report are: P595771 to

595776 inclusive, P595779 to 595781 inclusive, P596501 to

596505 inclusive, P596507 to 596514 inclusive, P596526,

P596601, P596701, P596707 to 596711 inclusive, P596716 to

596718 inclusive, P688016 to 688021 inclusive, P787281,

P787282, P809478 to 809490 inclusive and P809632 to 809637

inclusive.

The claims straddle the boundary between Benton and Mallard

Townships and are located approximately 85 miles southwest of

Tinmins, Ontario.

The Woman River transects the claim group. A bush road

reaches a point approximately 0.5 miles from the property.

However, the road is in very poor condition and helicopter

access was utilized for the survey work.

Page 4: RPT ON GROUND MAG SUR BERLE J V PROP BENTON & …...5. DATA PRESENTATION The magnetometer data are presented in contoured plan form in Map 1. A contour interval of 100 nT has been

3. PROPERTY GEDIDGY

The claim group lies within the Swayze greenstone belt and

rocks in the general area of the property consist mainly of

mafic to intermediate volcanics with minor intercalated mafic

and felsic tuffs.

Detailed geological mapping of the property was completed by

Noranda Exploration in 1984. The mapping revealed that the

property is underlain by a sequence of northwest trending

mafic and intermediate volcanic flows intruded by diabase and

quartz-feldspar porphyry dykes. In the southern portion of

the property, an intermediate pyroclastic unit is

intercalated with the flows.

Previous exploration work in the area has been concentrated

on the Woman River gold showing located in the centre of the

claim group. The showing, discovered in 1933, has been

trenched and sampled on several subsequent occasions with

assay results obtained between 0.19 and 0.4 ozs per ton.

Numerous mining companies and organizations have flown

airborne geophysical surveys over or in close proximity to

the present claim group in search of base metals. No grid

cutting, geophysical surveys or drilling have been previously

filed for the property.

Page 5: RPT ON GROUND MAG SUR BERLE J V PROP BENTON & …...5. DATA PRESENTATION The magnetometer data are presented in contoured plan form in Map 1. A contour interval of 100 nT has been

4. SURVEY SPECIFICATIONS;

The magnetometer survey was performed along northeasterly

oriental grid lines spaced 400 ft apart. Station spacings

along the grid lines were 100 ft.

A Geometrics G-816 proton precession magnetometer was

employed to measure the earth's total magnetic field with an

accuracy of InT. A base station was established and diurnal

variation of the earth's magnetic field was monitored at this

station. Corrections were applied to the field data as a

function of time of reading by reference to the base station

results.

A total of 57.37 line miles of magnetometer surveying was

completed over the grid.

5. DATA PRESENTATION

The magnetometer data are presented in contoured plan form in

Map 1.

A contour interval of 100 nT has been employed and no

filtering has been performed on the data.

6. DISCUSSION OF RESULTS

The magnetometer data are characterized by narrow, lenticular

highs over most of the claim group. In the majority of

cases, step magnetic gradients are associated with the highs

which suggest very shallow depth of overburden cover.

Page 6: RPT ON GROUND MAG SUR BERLE J V PROP BENTON & …...5. DATA PRESENTATION The magnetometer data are presented in contoured plan form in Map 1. A contour interval of 100 nT has been

6. DISCUSSION OF RESULTS

Over the southeastern corner of the claim goup, gradients are

subdued and suggest increasing overburden cover or limited

outcrop exposure.

A general northwesterly trend direction is suggested by the

magnetic data. This direction is common to both the

geological strike in the area and the orientation of diabase

dykes. For this reason it is difficult to differentiate

diabase dyes and mafic volcanic flows on the basis of

magnetic expression as both rock types display similar

signatures. The lenticular magnetic high close to the

northen boundary of claim P688019 would appear to lie in

close proximity to outcrop exposure of diabase dyke. The

magnetic response is limited to three lines and extrapolating

the dyke response beyond this is difficult.

It is suggested that the majority of linear magnetic highs on

the claim group are due to intermediate flows with variations

in magnetic expressions being the result of depth of

overburden variations or changes in mafic character of the

flows.

One are of higher magnetic relief {up to 2000nT above local

background) in the extreme northeastern corner of the claim

group (claim P595776) may have mafic flows as the causative

source.

Page 7: RPT ON GROUND MAG SUR BERLE J V PROP BENTON & …...5. DATA PRESENTATION The magnetometer data are presented in contoured plan form in Map 1. A contour interval of 100 nT has been

7. 03NCLUSIONS

The magnetometer survey has indicated a northwesterly trend

direction within the claim group. Due to similar

orientations of the country rock and intruded diabase dykes

and similar magnetic expressions, it is difficult to

differentiate the magnetic responses of the two.

Where geological control is good, it would appear that

variations in magnetic expressions associated with

intermediate flows may reflect mafic composition changes.

Respectfully submitted

Brian Groves
