INTRODUCTION
Clarke Geological Consulting under the supervision of Geodigital Mapping Systems Inc. was contracted to perform a follow-up detailed humus sampling program on the Enterprise Property which is currently held by Homestake Canada Inc. The survey was conducted on nine claims in the southeast portion of the property in order to verify the humus anomalies identified in an earlier reconnaissance sampling program performed during September, 1993 (Clark, 1993). The property is situated approximately three kilometres to the north of the Hemlo gold system. This portion of the claim group is reached via the Golden Giant Mine tailings dam access road.
A small grid was cut on the property by Rayan Exploration Limited of Timmins, Ontario. The grid consists of a l .4km east-west baseline and fourteen 450m north-south lines. The humus sampling program was conducted between November l and 4, 1993, by Aubrey Eveleigh, Todd Maitland and Ray Koivisto of Clark Geological Consulting, Thunder Bay, Ontario.
A total of 317 humus samples were collected and sent to Accurassay Laboratories (279 samples) and Chemex Labs Inc. (38 check samples) for gold analyses.
LOCATION AND ACCESS
The Enterprise Property is located approximately 230 kilometres to the east of Thunder Bay in the Wabikoba Lake Area (G-620) of the Thunder Bay Mining Division (Figure 1). The property occurs within NTS 42C/12NW and is centred on Latitude 48 43'40" and Longitude 85 55'50". The claims are situated approximately three kilometres north of Highway 17 and the Hemlo gold deposits.
Access to the property is easily gained from Highway 17 via the Hemlo Gold, Golden Giant mine access road (Yellow Brick Road) and road system. The tailings pond perimeter road forms part of this network and traverses the southeast corner of the claim group. Prior permission is required to use the tailings pond access road, and one must also check in and out with Hemlo Gold Mines security on a daily basis.
CLAIMS
The Enterprise property is comprised of 44 contiguous claims and one claim block (l l units) which are 100**6 owned by Homestake Canada Inc. This report covers the work completed on nine claims: TB1123439, TB1123441, TB1123442, TB1123444, TB1123445, TB1050318, TB1050319, TB1078500 and TB1078501) (Figure 2). AH claims are recorded in good standing in the Thunder Bay Mining Division (Claim map G-620, Wabikoba Lake Area).
REGIONAL GEOLOGY
Regional mapping of the Hemlo-Heron Bay greenstone belt by the Ontario Geological Survey (e.g. Muir, 1982a, 1982b) indicates that this area is underlain by mainly dacitic and

rhyolitic calc-alkalic pyroclastic rocks and reworked equivalents, as well as tholeiitic basalts. The Hemlo gold deposit is hosted at or near the contact between felsic to intermediate, feldspar phyric pyroclastic rocks and sedimentary (volcaniclastic and epiclastic) rocks. This volcano- sedimentary sequence is bounded to the northwest, northeast and south respectively by the Gowan Lake Pluton, Cedar Lake Pluton and the Pukaskawa gneissic belt (Figure 3). The occurrence of the deposit appears to be the result of a complex geological history which involves ductile deformation, intrusion of numerous felsic bodies (dikes and sills) and associated intense hydrothermal alteration (feldspathization and sericitization). The temporal relationship between the gold mineralizing event, deformation and hydrothermal alteration has not yet been clearly established. The regional geology of the area is described in detail in "Geology and Gold Deposits of the Hemlo Area" (Muir et al., 1991).
Collectively, the total contained (mined and reserves) ore-grade gold in the Hemlo deposit is approximately 580 tonnes (Muir et al, 1991). Gold most commonly occurs as very finely disseminated grains with molybdenite, along quartz-feldspar grain boundaries and fractures (Harris, 1989).
PREVIOUS EXPLORATION WORK
The Enterprise Property covers claims which were originally held by Enterprise Development and Eagle River Resources in the early 1 980' s, and staked in response to the Hemlo gold discoveries. Research of assessment data filed at the Hemlo Resident Geologist's Office in Thunder Bay indicates that no work is reported prior to 1981. The reported work is summarized below and includes:
1981 -Eagle River Mines/Twin Eagle Mines Ltd. Line cutting, magnetometer and VLF survey
1983 -Berle Oil Corporation/Teck Exploration LimitedGeological mapping and geochemical sampling (soil and humus) (Thorsen, 1984)
1985 -Eagle River Mines/Twin Eagle Mines Ltd. Geological mapping
1988 -Esso Minerals staked all claims (except Eagle River Resources claims) Line cutting
1989 -Esso Minerals transferred HKM interest to HomestakeMagnetometer and VLF survey (Grant, 1989)
1989 -Homestake staked all previous Eagle River Resources claims Geological mapping
1990 -Homestake Mineral Development CompanyMagnetometer and VLF survey (Mcivor, 1990)

1990 -Homestake Mineral Development Company Mapping (Grant, 1990)
More recently, Homestake Canada Inc. has conducted a reconnaissance and detailed humus sampling program over a small portion of the Enterprise property (Clark, 1993).
PROPERTY GEOLOGY
Previous geological mapping by Grant (1990) indicates that the property is predominantly underlain by a thick sequence of clastic metasedimentary rocks interfingered with lesser mafic volcanic flows and felsic tuffaceous rocks. The Cedar Lake Pluton occurs along the eastern boundary of the property. Several small granodiorite to tonalite stocks have also intruded the volcano-sedimentary package. All of the above are transected by north and northwest trending diabase dikes (Figure 4).
All rocks, except the diabase, have been subjected to upper greenschist to lower amphibolite facies metamorphism, and exhibit a weak to moderate foliation.
No significant mineralization has been identified on the property to date, with prospecting and sampling yielding only background gold values.
HUMUS SAMPLING SURVEY AND RESULTS
Clark Geological Consulting was contracted to perform a detailed follow-up humus sampling program on a portion of the Enterprise property in the vicinity of the southern contact of the small granodiorite stock and the sediments. Previous exploration programs have indicated that the contact zone is defined by VLF conductors, and reconnaissance geochemical sampling has identified coincident anomalous gold enrichment trends in humus samples (Clarke, 1993). This survey was performed on nine claims on the southeast corner of the property to expand on and verify the previous humus results.
A small grid, consisting of a l .4km east-west baseline and fourteen 450m north-south grid lines was cut by Rayan Exploration Limited. Grid lines are spaced at 100m intervals and each line was picketed every 25m. A total of 279 humus samples were collected at 25m intervals over the complete grid. Additionally, 38 duplicate samples were collected over lines 5+OOW and 6+OOW in order to provide check assays. The humus on the property was typically observed as a thin layer which developed over the boulder-rich silty clay overburden. Humus thickness, moisture content and sample quality were also recorded. The vegetation cover and drainage were also mapped during sampling and all of these results are summarized in Figure 5. Locally, the vegetation is comprised of spruce, tag alder, balsam, birch, moose maple and tamarack. Drainage is generally good with run-off from both the north and south flowing into a stream which in turn drains to the east into Cedar Creek.
The humus gold assay data are presented in Figure 6 and assay certificates are located in Appendix A. Examination of the duplicate assay data indicates that the Accurassay analyses are consistently higher than the Chemex data. This may be a function of the sample preparation and analytical techniques or possible sample contamination. However, it should also be noted that the higher Chemex analyses do correlate with the high Accurassay data. is presented in Figure 7. The data exhibits a positive skewness with a relatively high mean gold assay of 31ppb and standard deviation of 48ppb, which in turn enables the calculation of an anomaly threshold of 127ppb (mean plus two standard deviations). These statistical data indicate that a total of 11 samples (or S.6%) of the humus data set contain anomalous gold concentrations. Examination of the posted assay data indicates several areas of gold enrichment in the humus which are in the vicinity of the southern contact of the granodiorite stock with the sediments. These trends are more evident in the contoured data plot shown in Figure 8. Two anomalous trends are indicated from 900W to 600W at approximately l DON to 175N ("A") and from 1000W to 800W at 25S to 100S ("B"). Anomaly "A" appears to be related to the southern contact of the granodiorite stock with the sediments, and two previously located VLF anomalies. Anomaly "B", however, is not apparently related to any geological or geophysical features. Due to the extensive and relatively thick overburden layer, outcrop is locally rare and therefore the source of these anomalies is uncertain.
CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
Additional testing of this area is recommended in order to further evaluate the anomalous gold enrichment trends in the humus. Overburden profiles in the anomalous area should be sampled sequentially with depth in order to determine whether the underlying sediments and tills also carry anomalous gold enrichment, and hopefully to assist in the definition of follow-up diamond drilling targets.
