LOCATION

The property consists of 56 unpatented mining claims number ed 594232-261, 632323-332, 632381-383, 632388-391, 632396-400, and 644801-804 located in the Townships of Goldie and the Dawson Road Lots in the District of Thunder Bay, Ontario. These Town ships are located close to the junction of Highways 11 and 17 at Shabaqua, 36 miles west of Thunder Bay.

ACCESS

A gravel road and numerous bush trails cross the north and east portion of the property allowing for reasonable access. There were no grid or recent cut lines visible due to the new secondary growth of brush and young conifer trees.

GENERAL TOPOGRAPHY AND GEOLOGY

The property is covered mainly by overburden with the odd

outcrop exposure. Theregional maps indicate that the northern portion of the property is underlain by metasedimentary units of greywacke, slate and mica schists.

The southern half is underlain by metavolcanic units that hist

orically have been prospected for gold and copper. Several show ings have been drilled on the south side of Highway l?. The

strike and dip of the units is S 68 E dipping 75 degrees to the

north. These units consist of basic to intermediate volcanics

consisting of hornblende, chlorite schists and pyroclastic rocks.

Early reports indicate that the overburden varies in depth from

a few feet to several hundred feet and consist of intercalated

sands, gravel and boulders ranging up to 10 feet in diameter.

The topography is gentle to rolling with ridges of coarse

mixed gravels. The drainage appears to be intermediate to immature

with local depressions filled with recent organic and run-off

material. A thin layer of organic humus covers most areas.

The soil profile is thin and weakly developed reflecting

recent weathering of the overburden material covering this area. Both an 'A' and 'B' soil horizon exists over most of the area

although the boundary between the 'B' and parent overburden is often abrupt as exhibited by the thin soil horizons grading

directly into coarse gravel and boulders. Only in the lower depressions do the characteristic soil horizons become thicker

and more recognizeable.

PURPOSE OF SURVEY

The program intended to sample the soil and basal till horizons in five specified areas covering known VLF-Electro- magnetic anomalies produced from an old survey. Since no out

crops existed in the areas of the anomalies, this program was initiated to explain the geological reasons for the existence of

the anomalies.

PROJECT CREW

A crew of three men was supplied through Sonic Soil Sampling

Inc. of Toronto to carry out an overburden sampling program in the five designated areas. Appended to this report is the work

assessment breakdown for this project which was carried out from January 26 through to February 8, 1983-

SURVEY DESCRIPTION

The sampling was carried out over a period of ten days with local access provided by snow-machines. Problems were encountered

in locating some of the sample sites due to the new undergrowth and problems in locating Noranda's 19&9 grid. Sample sites were

established relative to claim lines where posts could be found. Most locations were drilled using the Sonic Vibracorer drill

except where heavy boulder cover prevented penetration of the overburden. Most samples were taken within the five foot inter

face and the sampling of the designated locations was better than 95f0 ' In almost every case the 'B' soil Horizon was retrieved,

sampled and bagged for analysis.Many of the areas sampled were covered by glacial overburden

consisting of mainly unsorted boulders and coarse gravels with a sandy matrix overlain by a silty-clay layer.

The surficial soil horizons were generally poorly developed or immature consisting of unstratified, massive units. The 'A 1 horizon consisted of locally deposited black organic humus vary ing in depth from a few inches to several feet in swamp covered areas .

The 'B' soil horizon consisted of grey to "brown silty loam with some clay in the matrix. The material is fine grained, homogeneous and locally thicker in depression areas. This horizon contained some sand and silt enriched sections but may be due to localized slumping rather than in situ weathering. Almost all of the areas were underlain by extensive boulder debris of mixed sizes. Penet ration into this zone was not possible with the equipment at our disposal for this survey.

The description of the sampling is appended to this report with accompanying location plans.

CONCLUSIONS

Although the overburden program failed to core the basal till horizon, the program did recover the 'B' Soil Horizon material in almost all cases. This material can be used for geochemical analysis and some of the'C' Horizon material and gravels can be used for heavy mineral studies.Except for reverse circulation or diamond drilling there are

verty tfew lalterfiative methods for sampling the basal till horizon and bedrock interface.in this area.

RECOMMENDATIONS

Depending on the analysis results from the initial sampling program over the five designated sample areas, a follow-up program may be necessary.

I would recommend the following work:

1. Cut grid lines at 400 foot intervals over the claim Group to establish reference points and locate the claim lines and posts of the latest staking (Feb.82).

2 Detailed line cutting at 200 foot intervals over the anomalous areas.

2 Re-run the VLF-Electromagnetic surveys at close int

ervals (50 foot centres) over the known anomalies to pinpoint and

verify the previous Noranda results. Note the relative strengths of the responses between the two surveys.

4 Detailed geological mapping and drift prospecting

should be carried out in the vicinity of the anomalies, taking samples where possible. Drift prospecting on a detailed scale may help to determine the underlying rock units or help to identify the mineral suite necessary for future analysis and drill

core sampling.

2 From the above preliminary VLF-EM geophysical and sampling programs determine whether the area is condusive to Induced Polarization Surveys on a detailed scale. This may be necessary to properly identify the known VLF-EM anomalies.

H Determine if further overburden work and soil- sam

pling would assist in the identification of the VLF-EM anomalies based on the results of the above survey.

2. Phase II of this program would include diamond drilling to test the anomalous targets produced from the combined programs

above. Footage will depend on the number of proven and/or the relative strengths of the geophysical targets.
