Dear Parents,

Open Day seems an awfully long time ago and yet the memories of a buzzing school, full of a record number of visitors is

still very fresh. Our Year 5 & 6 guides did a superb job all morning and were unanimously given outstanding feedback by

our visitors. My grateful thanks to all who helped make the day such a success.

During assembly on Monday I was extolling the virtues of team work to the children using the example of getting over a

physical barrier such as a wall. The Great Wall of China, Hadrian’s Wall, The Western Wall and The Berlin Wall were all

used as examples and congratulations to Emily in Y6 and Michael in Year 4 who were the only pupils able to identify

Hadrian’s Wall and The Berlin Wall respectively.

Year 2 enjoyed a very informative and exciting trip to the London Aquarium on Tuesday. They travelled by public

transport to the aquarium which was an adventure in itself and I am delighted to report that they coped admirably with

the challenge. My thanks to the Year 2 team and the parent helpers for supporting the trip.

I have spent the last couple of days at the IAPS Heads Annual Conference in Wales where amongst other things I

attended a fascinating talk from the Headmaster of Bootham School in York on Mental Health and Wellbeing. Bootham is

a Quaker School and they have been running a very successful programme there for the last few years that started with

inspiration from Martin Seligman and his ground breaking work on positive psychology. The main reason for my

fascination with the talk was that they continually used the language of our very own Russell Powers and so it was good

to see that once again RRJS is ahead of the game! One of his other suggestions to improve wellbeing was not to send or

answers emails from work between the hours of 7pm and 7am….watch this space for further development!

Having been away with 350 other heads it is always fantastic to return to school, to hear the pupils voices and to catch

up with the news of the last few days. Thank you to the team back at base who have, as always managed the school so

well in my physical absence.

Good luck to all those taking part in the U9 and U10 Football Festivals tomorrow at St George’s Weybridge and Caterham.

Best wishes.

Mr James C Thompson
