Synergy Dance FestivalRouse Hill High School’s Year 9 Dance elective group performed at Synergy Dance Festival on

Wednesday the 7th of June and Wednesday the 14th of June at the Evans Theatre at Penrith Panthers with a dance piece titled Bad Blood. The dance work is a story of a lucid dreamer, a journey that captures feelings and emotions in a dreamy way that stays entirely inside the dancer's head. The Year 9 Dance Elective class represented our school with determination, drive and passion. In Term 3, they will be performing at the Orange Blossom Festival, the Hills Performing Arts Festival and competing at the Ultimate Dance Challenge in Dural. I would like to acknowledge and congratulate the following students; Peta Sternaras, Janie Hansen, Isla Forshaw, Ashley McKinnon, Tanner Lelo, Lily O’Donnell, Mikayla Paisley, Annalise Secanski, Ella Jae Ihalainen, Holly Caithness, Jessi Baker and Isabelle Assouline Hayes.

CAPA Report

On the 13th June, Ms Kirby and Ms Devine took their Year 9 Photography class, Year 10 Art class and Stage 6 Photography class on an excursion to Windsor Gallery. Students were able to view the 2017 Archibald Prize and then spent some time exploring Windsor Park. Students were amazed at the quality of artworks at the gallery and thoroughly enjoyed their day.

This term, Year 10 Visual Arts has been learning about site specific art. As part of the excursion to Windsor Gallery, the Year 10 Art class created artworks that they set up in Windsor Park and photographed. They had to carefully consider the location for their artwork, and consider how the audience can interact with the artwork.

I would like to thank Ms Kirby and Ms Devine for organising this rewarding opportunity for our students.

Hands On Science Georgia Turner Year 1.0 Science

For the past 7 weeks, 10D’s science class has been partially taken up by our class project - a Rube Goldberg machine that demonstrates the chemical reactions we have learnt in class this term. Our aim, which we have been working towards in small groups, is to create a complex machine designed to display individual chemical reactions in one continuous chain-reaction. To achieve this we have had to construct research on the best ways to demonstrate our reactions in our smaller groups, and then join them together to create a singularly functioning machine operated by a single trigger at the beginning.

In order for the machine to work idealistically, we have had to accommodate for the groups going before and after our own. We have attempted to transition between groups to create a chain-reaction, and for the most part have been successful in our original and creative ways to display chemical reactions after an engaging process of experimentation that furthered our understanding of chemistry.

We hope that by week 10 we will have a working Rube Goldberg machine that incorporates a range of chemical reactions.
