Will the Job Affect the Pregnancy? Parental Occupational Reproductive Exposures

Lecture Description

Both women and men can experience adverse reproductive outcomes or effects due to workplace exposures to chemical, biological, and physical agents. Authoritative information on occupational reproductive

hazards is scarce and complex because exposure levels vary, multiple exposures may be present, and the reproductive toxicity of many agents remains unknown. For these reasons, health care providers may find it challenging to effectively address workplace reproductive health issues with their patients who are pregnant, breast-feeding, or considering pregnancy.

This presentation by Dr. Carissa Rocheleau, a leading NIOSH reproductive occupational epidemiologist, will discuss important information and current research findings to help health care and public health professionals better understand and be able to discuss these issues with patients. Her lecture will spotlight exposure hazards and case studies in the healthcare industry, while also covering the assessment of potential workplace reproductive hazards in any industry, and offering advice on counseling patients to determine the best options for safe work to ensure reproductive health.
