NOVEMBER IS FOUNDATION MONTH
The mission of The Rotary Foundation is to support the efforts of Rotary International in the fulfilment of the Object of Rotary, Rotary's mission, and the achievement of world understanding and peace
through local, national, and international humanitarian, educational, and cultural programs.
The Rotary Foundation is a not-for-profit corporation that supports the efforts of Rotary International to achieve world understanding and
peace through international humanitarian, educational, and cultural exchange programs. It is supported solely by voluntary contributions
from Rotarians and friends of the Foundation who share its vision of a better world.
The Foundation was created in 1917 by Rotary International's sixth president, Arch C. Klumph, as an endowment fund for Rotary "to do good in the world." It has grown from an initial contribution of
US$26.50 to almost US$118 million contributed in 2004-05. Its event-filled history is a story of Rotarians learning the value of service to
humanity.
Leading The Rotary Foundation Committee in 2008-09 is PDG Denis Hyland.
This year a major emphasis of The Rotary Foundation is to continue the push to rid the world of polio. We will do all that we can to provide around $50000 annually over the next three years, our District’s
contribution to match the Gates Foundation’s generous grant of $US100 million. In district simplified grants which have been increased
to $3000, we encourage clubs to support programs within the areas of rural relief and indigenous health via water and literacy projects.
WE HOPE EVERY ROTARIAN WOULD FEEL THE
PRIDE OF THE ACHIEVEMENTS AND PROGRAMS
OF THE ROTARY FOUNDATION

Presidents Report
Hello Team,
How are you all?
Last week we had our first club forum for the year, which was chaired by AG Keith Maxwell. From the feedback and discussions, I think it was
a very successful night and the information provided will help us plan towards the future of the club. I have made plenty of notes from the night and I will bring them up with the board at the next board
meeting. While I am on the subject of Board meetings, our next meeting (Board) will be on the 22nd October (Wednesday) at the
Clayton Community centre in Cooke Street, between 6:00 & 8:00 pm. As you all know we have been offered by the Rotary Club of
Huntingdale to help provide services in the form of managing the public and reserved car parking areas, staffing the ticketing boxes and
managing the practice fairway at the 2008 Australian Masters Golf between Thursday 27th to Sunday 30th November at Huntingdale Golf Club. Any members who are interested, can they please see Bob Millen
who has the roster list and will add your name on the days you can help out?
Also now each week Neil is putting a job roster in the bulletin. If you are not able to perform your job on the chosen night, can you please organise a replacement to take your place.
Important dates to keep in mind are: -
26/10 – Synchrotron Open Day BBQ (contact Neil Rickard for details). 01/11 to 04/11 – Garage Sale at Safety Beach (contact Jim & Jean

THE OBJECT OF ROTARY
1. The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service; 2. High ethical standards in business and professions; the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations, and the dignifying of each Rotarian's occupation as an opportunity to serve society; 3. The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian's personal, business, and community life; 4. The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.
Fellowship. Local identity Jim Ulbrick was given a Vocational Award in recognition to services to his profession and the community.
We had also attained 2900%, which was the highest level of
contributions in Australasia.
What Paul Harris Said
"We must help all nations in distress and raise the standards of
living of the lowly. If we steadfastly pursue this course, prosperity such as we have never enjoyed before will be ours, the
wheels of industry will be kept turning and all nations will be friends.
What a blessing it would be to live in a friendly world, where all
nations are good neighbours! ". "Fear and Hate Must Go" by Paul P Harris July 1946
From the Rotarian magazine.
