One topic that came up at our Division’s Administrators’ meeting last week was a presentation focusing on individuals engaging in excess screen time. The information ranged on statistics from children 2-3 years old, teenagers, young adults, and adults. It was interesting to hear of how, for some individuals, when their device is taken from them they react similar to addicts suffering from withdrawal. Reports and surveys revealed the quantity of time individuals spend on their device, and to what wee hours of the night (midnight -2am) many teenagers are on their devices (phones, ipads, laptops) during school nights. So what comes of this information? Probably more awareness and encouragement for self-reflection of our personal practices as adults, of our personal practices as parents, and what positive alternatives and structures we are creating for our youth and young adults. A regular reminder to every parent and student – have you physically seen a copy (paper or picture) of your Progress Report from each of your classes? We are not at the point where we can direct you to a portal or website for self-serve and real time information of progress in class, so the Progress Report is a close as we get. Thank you for being an active partner in this. On a similar note, the Flex period (Day 4, Period 4 12:41pm - 1:32pm) has been very successful in putting a highlight on the importance of completing work on time and getting late/missing assignments completed. The time leading up to the Christmas break is always interesting for the excitement of Christmas, along with the excitement of a 2 week break, brings with it extra energy. It also seems to bring some tests as teachers push to finish units prior to the break. Thank you in advance for having your student keep in close contact with the teacher if tests are missed. If your family is taking vacation outside of the break, please be aware that material and content will likely be missed and will need to be attended to after returning. Unfortunately it is not always possible for a teacher to send work ahead of time. When school resumes after the Christmas break, the treadmill will likely be on high speed for the Grades 10-12 as they finish up the course and prepare for Final Exams (Jan 27-30). “A Caring School Community Striving To Promote Respect, Leadership, and Responsibility through Quality Education” Phone: (306) 882-2655 E-mail: [email protected] Mr. Jeff Sopczak – Principal Mr. Gary Paproski – Vice Principal

Administrators’ Message

The Christmas season is upon us and we start to prepare for the rush before Christmas holidays and also for the time after the holidays.

SRC Hi, fellow Royals! We have finally finished November, and we have arrived in my favorite month of the year, December! During the beginning of November, our school held a Remembrance Day service to commemorate the sacrifices of all the men and women during the war. This was a touching ceremony and it really will astound you, how fortunate we all are living in this time period. We all should be grateful and appreciative of all that we are experiencing in the present. Also, during November, we did our Mom’s Pantry fundraiser. Thank you to everyone who participated and supported our fundraiser. Be sure to look out for our spirit days and events this upcoming December. If any of you have any questions please don’t hesitate to stop me in town, or in the hallways. Thank you! “Gratitude turns what we have into enough.” - Submitted by Isabella De Leon, SRC President

Reminder to Parents

Please remember to call the school (306-882-2655) if your child will be LATE or ABSENT. The school office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. If you are unable to call during that time, we do have voicemail. Please call and leave a message. Students will be called to the office for telephone messages, lunches, and administration purposes. Students are reminded to watch the television monitors for information on extra-curricular activities and upcoming events.

The Staff at RCHS wish you Happy Holidays

and all the Best in the New Year!!
