Principally Speaking…

. . ..

Dear Rose Lane Families,

The final countdown is underway... We have less than 10 school days left! This year has flown

by and has provided countless opportunities for our students. Several events have occurred

since our last correspondence including the Spring Showcase, Junior Achievement Day, and

several end of the year events. Our Kindergarten Students will be sharing songs and dance

from around the world on Thursday, May 18 at 6:00pm. This will also be a wonderful event that

you will not want to miss. Throughout our campus, our amazing students continue to shine with

their talents in the visual and performing fine arts.

Many parents have inquired about academic areas that they might work with their youngster

over the summer. One of the most important things that you can do is to read every day to and

with your child. Setting aside 20 minutes per day (even on the weekends and during holidays)

is an excellent way to help foster this important skill. Discussing with your child a story or a

passage that you read together helps them foster a love for reading while strengthening their

comprehension. We encourage you to make this a priority this summer. Another skill that could

be very helpful for your child is introducing them to keyboarding skills. There are several free

online programs that assist with the development of this skill. One that I found was:

https://www.typingclub.com/. Having students acquire this skill will help them during their school

years as well as through life.

Thank you for your support of Madison Rose Lane. Teacher Appreciation Week (May 1-5) was

a marvelous event and our entire staff is most grateful for the cards, gifts, and notes of

encouragement. So much of the tireless dedication and support that our incredible teachers

offer every day is a huge gift to students.

We also are grateful for your help in spreading the ‘good word’ about Rose Lane to the

community. Several prospective families have inquired about Rose Lane for the upcoming year.

Most of them have indicated that they have called or come to visit because of the ‘word of

mouth’ from current families. This is absolutely the best form of advertising for our school. Our

classes are filling up fast. If you have any other friends or family members who are interested in

enrolling in Rose Lane, please have them do so as quickly as possible as space is becoming

limited. Please also note that our offices will be closed this summer from June 5-July 7. School

registration packets will need to be picked up prior to that time or afterwards. There will be

central registration at the District Office while the school offices are closed. Thanks again for

your patience and understanding!

Sincerely,

Dr. Peter D. Morkert

Principal-Madison Rose Lane

Your child will not have lunch at school on Thursday, May 25th due to our 11:00am dismissal. If needed, your child can pick up a sack lunch in the cafeteria to take when they leave.

Dance Class News…

Thank you, parents and students, for your support of the new dance program at Rose Lane. The Talent Showcase last week was a success because of your dedication. Our Rose Lane students at each grade level have performed 9 concerts for dance class this year! What an amazing year! Kindergarten students are preparing for their concert "Songs from Around the World" on May 18th at 6 p.m. in the cafeteria. Stay tuned for club information next school year. Club after school for dance will take place on Mondays and Thursdays from 2:30-3:30 in the dance room with Ms. Lachance and Ms. Wulff. We will offer a variety for grades 2-4, such as tap, clogging, jazz, ballet, hip-hop, lyrical, and acrobats. Contact Ms. Lachance at [email protected] for any questions you might have about this club.

On Friday, May 5th students at Rose Lane participated in Junior

Achievement Day. We had 40 volunteers on campus teaching kids about

financial literacy, banking accounts, savings accounts, and

entrepreneurship. Students participated in five engaging lessons that

were filled with activities and games. Thank you to all of our wonderful

volunteers for helping make this day possible for Rose Lane kids.

The Next Great Steps…. As another school year comes to a close we are reminded of all the wonder this past year has held for us. Many adventures were brand new to several T.E.A.M. members. It was a year of learning the ropes of what makes Rose Lane a magical place for students, staff and families. However, the success of the year was not simply due to the new parents who dedicated their time, it was also the seasoned TEAM members who contributed their knowledge and time to help us all SOAR. Thank you grade level Teacher representatives Ms. Hathaway, Ms. Koniewich, Ms. Hidalgo, Ms. Hand, Mrs. Paul and Mrs. Ewald for your added value to our T.E.A.M. Our Vice President Candy, Treasurer Todd and General Board Member Cheryl will all be missed. We wish them and their 4th grade students well in all their future endeavors! To our outgoing President Alexis, we want to say thank you for your service. This past Monday elections occurred for a new TEAM. Although all of the officer positions have been filled and 5 parents joined the general board we still need your support to make next year exceptional. Our first meeting will occur over the summer; if you have any interest to help our community in a leadership type role, please e-mail Tiffany, our new TEAM president, at [email protected] Areas that could benefit from your contributions include Homeroom Parents, Event Chairs, Donations Chairs and Copy Parents. General volunteer information will also be collected during all school registration in July.

Is Your Child Missing His Coat, Lunchbox, or Backpack?

Please be sure you look for your missing items in the

Lost and Found located in the Health office.

All items not picked up by May 25th will be donated to charity.
