Master Gardener Volunteers teach program participants how to produce their own food and how local food systems can impact our environment, economy, and health. The Jefferson County Ohio Farm Bureau has donated over $1500 to this Farm-To- School Program, helping to cover needed greenhouse repairs and materials. That’s just a snap shot, however, of the OSUE agricultural education efforts this organization has supported. The Ohio Farm Bureau has partnered with OSUE on local agricultural education efforts for around 100 years. On a local level, the Jefferson County Farm Bureau was recognized with the Extension Distinguished Service Award at the 2014 4-H volunteer recognition banquet last fall. If you are interested in volunteering your time and energy to these sorts of projects, maybe the OSUE Master Gardener Volunteer Program is right for you! The 2015 Master Gardener Volunteer Training sessions are right around the corner, starting in March in Cadiz. Please see the flyer on page 5 for more information. Ohio Pesticide License Testing March 25th @ 10am

Agricultural producers interested in applying restricted use chemicals must take the Ohio Pesticide License Examination. The testing date for new applicators or for those wishing to add categories is March 25th, 2015 at 10am at the Jefferson County Extension office. 2015 Grazing School in Cadiz

March 31st and April 7th, 14th, 18th

The Harrison County Soil and Water Conservation District is hosting an eastern Ohio Grazing School, which will start up the end of March in the Cadiz area. Livestock producers who use pasture for feed can learn the principles of Management Intensive Grazing at a series of sessions designed to make the most of their time. Students will be guided through an evaluation of their own situation and goals, so that they can focus the rest of the time on the best way to apply these management concepts on their farms. Technical information will provide students the “how to” answers they need to begin making improvements right away. This information includes soils, plants, paddock layout, water system design, animal nutrition, winter feeding, and heavy use areas. Women in Agriculture Conference- March 27th @ Kent State University (New Philadelphia)

The second annual East Ohio Women in Agriculture Conference will be March 27, 2015 at the Kent State University Tuscarawas Branch in New Philadelphia. Sessions will go from 9am-3pm, with special breakout sessions. There is also a youth track for high school students with sessions presented by Ohio FFA Association state officers. Beginner Beekeeping Class- Cadiz, OH Tuesday evenings in March, the Harrison County Beekeeper Association will host their annual Short Course for beginning beekeepers. This excellent course takes the interested or novice individual through an excellent series including bee benefits, biology, hive management, and troubleshooting. The final class includes a hands-on learning trip to a local apiary. Those interested should contact co-instructor Bob Hooker at 740-945-0189. The cost of the course is $50 which includes a copy of The Beekeepers Handbook, 4th edition.
